Two new wide-angle RF full-frame lenses will be released from Canon, an RF 24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM and the RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM ultra-wide-angle zoom lens.
Canon RF 24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM
The RF 24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM is a compact 24mm wide-angle lens that offers a fast f/1.8 aperture, a 9-blade iris diaphragm, and a built-in optical image stabilizer. When used on a camera with an APS-C sensor, this lens offers an effective focal length equivalent to approximately 35mm.
Canon RF 24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM
Weighing just 270g and featuring a compact STM focus drive for fast and, according to Canon, quiet focusing, the RF 24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM is perfect for travel and landscape photography. The closest focusing distance is 14cm (0.5x magnification).
The macro lens has a customizable lens control ring for setting ISO, aperture or changing AF mode. In addition, the lens has a dedicated focus ring for precise manual focusing. When used with compatible cameras, helpful lens information is displayed to provide even better focusing assistance.
The optical design consists of eleven optical lenses in nine groups, and there is Super Spectra coating to reduce lens reflections and flare. The RF 24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM is equipped with a 5-stop optical image stabilizer, whose performance increases to 6.5 stops when the lens is used on an EOS R series camera equipped with in-camera image stabilization (IBIS).
Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM
With a focal length range of 15-30mm and a compact, rugged design - it weighs only about 390g - the RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM targets travel, landscape or vlog shots. The ultra-wide-angle lens is equipped with a 5.5-stop optical image stabilizer that allows for longer exposure times and steady freehand video shooting. When paired with an EOS R camera equipped with in-camera image stabilizer (IBIS), Canon says seven stops of exposure are achieved for blur-free photos and steady video.
Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM
The lens features an STM focusing motor that allows fast focusing on dynamic subjects. Canon says the exceptionally quiet STM motor is equally suitable for video recording. With a 0.52x magnification (at 15mm focal length), this optic also offers some macro capabilities.
The RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM&s new optical design includes aspherical and precision-molded glass lenses, as well as coatings that are said to provide optimal image quality. A combined focus and lens control ring allows for individual control of camera settings.
