In addition to the new full-frame Canon EOS R8, Canon today added another camera to its APS-C DSLM lineup, aimed primarily at content creators and vloggers looking to upgrade from a smartphone. With an MSRP. of €829, the Canon EOS R50 marks the current most affordable entry into the Canon EOS R portfolio.
At the heart of the new Canon EOS R50 is an APS-C C-MOS sensor (without IBIS) with 24.2 MP effective resolution and the Canon DIGIC X processor. Thanks to Canon RF mount, Canon RF as well as Canon RF-S lenses are natively supported. EF and EF-S lenses can be used with the EF-EOS R adapter, the EF-EOS R lens control ring adapter, or the EF-EOS R insert filter adapter. (EF-M lenses are not compatible). ![]() Measuring 116.3 x 85.5 x 68.8mm with a weight of 375g (with battery and memory card), the Canon EOS R50 may also be the lightest Canon EOS R DSLM currently available. The viewfinder resolves with 2.36 million pixels - the 2.95-inch folding display with 1.62 million pixels. For recording, there is a card slot for SD cards that is compatible with SD/SDHC/SDXC and UHS-I. Photos are captured at up to 12 fps with the electronic first shutter curtain, or 15 fps with the electronic shutter. ![]() Videos can be recorded up to max 4K 30p with a maximum duration of 1 hour (excluding high frame rate videos) (no 4 GB file limit with exFAT formatted memory card). Thanks to oversampling, the 4K resolution of the videos should be quite high quality. With the HDR PQ function enabled, 10 bits are also possible - otherwise max 8 bits. Log profiles are accordingly not available on the Canon EOS R50 (- these are only integrated in the APS-C segment starting with the Canon EOS R7). With the current version of Canon&s Dual Pixel AF (Dual Pixel CMOS AF II), the Canon EOS R50 can detect people, animals and vehicles. In addition, the EOS R50 automatically detects whether it is held in landscape or portrait mode. Thanks to multifunction shoe, microphones can also be connected wirelessly to the Canon EOS R50. ![]() For quick content sharing, the Canon EOS R50 connects to the Canon Camera Connect app via WIFI and Bluetooth, and can also be controlled remotely. By updating image.canon, the use of Adobe® Lightroom Movie and Corporate Support is also available, allowing the use of services such as Frame.IO. Furthermore, without additional software, the Canon EOS R50 can also be used as a webcam with UVC/UAC via a USB connection. Prices and availability: EOS R50 Body: €829.00 MSRP.
