Canon resurrects the pocket camcorder model category with the small PowerShot V10. Marketed as a 4K vlogging camera, the V10 weighs only 211g and is equipped with a 1-inch type CMOS sensor. It measures about 63.4 x 90.0 x 34.3mm and has very wide-angle F2.8 optics - the focal length is about 19mm equivalent to full-frame KB.
Filming is in 4K/UHD in 8bit H.264, but only at max 30p. In FullHD, up to 60p is supported. Max. uninterrupted video recording time is 1 hour; there is no 4GB file limit with exFAT formatted SD memory card.
Zoom and image stabilization are only available digitally. Autofous works with contrast detection and offers face detection and tracking. In manual movie mode, exposure compensation can be adjusted in ±3 steps (thirds). In 4K, the ISO range is 125-3,200. The white balance can be adjusted, but it doesn't seem to be completely manual.
Integrated is a large stereo microphone on the top of the body, a microphone jack (mini jack) is also on board. The 2-inch touch display with 460,000 pixels can be folded up and a stand can be folded out (simple tilt adjustment up to 30 degrees).
A total of 14 color filter effects and a "smooth skin" mode are available for peppy pictures. However, the latter severely limits the recording time (4 minutes in 4K).
Vlog recordings should be easy to transfer to the cloud on Google Drive or YouTube via image.canon. The V10 can also be streamed live to YouTube or Facebool via the Canon Camera Connect app on a smartphone, and the camera can also be used as a webcam. Besides WLAN and Bluetooth, both HDMI and USB interfaces are available. The camera can also be charged via USB-C when on the go.
The Canon Powershot V10 is expected to be available in two bundles from mid-June 2023. The standard bundle with USB-C cable, case, lens cap, windshield and wrist strap costs 449 Euros, an extended kit, which was developed in cooperation with SmallRig, costs 479 Euros and additionally includes a mini-rig to which a ring light or an external microphone can be attached.
