With the new Canon EOS R100, Canon adds the currently most affordable model to its DSLM portfolio and is likely to have potential upgrade users in mind who come from smartphones and have the advantages of an interchangeable lens system. ;)
At the heart of the Canon EOS R100 is a 24.1 MP APS-C sensor that is read out by Canon&s DIGIC 8 processor. This combination is probably the biggest difference to the other Canon APS-C / entry-level models such as the R10 or R50, which are equipped with the more powerful DIGIC X CPU, which is also found in the top models such as the Canon EOS R5 C (  here our review or the R3. ;) On the video side, the Canon EOS R100 offers a maximum of 4K 25p in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 in crop mode (which should be around x1.55). Higher frame rates are possible in max 60p in 1080p resolution or 120p in 720p resolution. Canon&s high-quality Dual Pixel autofocus including face and eye tracking is also available with the R100 - but here only for Full HD recordings. As far as we know, a contrast-based AF is used for AF in 4K mode. For recording, an SD card slot is available that accepts SD, SDHC or SDXC (UHS-I compatible) memory cards. ;) Weighing just 356g (body-only), the Canon EOS R100 is a real lightweight that should provide high mobility with the compact APS-C zooms. Accordingly, Canon also offers kits for the Canon EOS R100 in combination with the RF-S 18-45mm IS STM as well as the RF-S 55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM. WLAN and Bluetooth connections to the Canon app on the smartphone are available for quick photo uploads. Other interfaces include USB-C, HDMI Type-D, a mini-jack for an external microphone and a wired remote shutter release connection. Prices and availability - The EOS R100 Kit with RF-S 18-45mm IS STM is priced at €699.00 RRP and will be available at the end of June. - The EOS R100 Kit with RF-S 18-45mm IS STM and RF-S 55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM costs 929,00€ RRP and will be available at the end of June. - The RF 28mm F2.8 STM costs 369,00€ RRP and will be available in July. - The OC-E4A costs 209,00€ RRP and is compatible with Canon models EOS R3, EOS R6 Mark II, EOS R7, EOS R8, EOS R10, EOS R50 and EOS R5 C.
