Next week, Canon will unveil a new camera - the device is vaguely visible in a newly released teaser image. "A new way to capture the world - Coming 9.9.25" it says, but the manufacturer doesn't reveal more.
Unfortunately, not much can be seen on the teaser, except that it is a very compact camera, seemingly without a viewfinder (at least on the top), but obviously with interchangeable lenses. It does not resemble any existing Canon camera line - but all the more a quite popular camera from the competition, the Sony FX3.
According to relevant rumor sites, the camera is said to be the successor to the Canon EOS R5 C, with the rumored model name being Cinema EOS C50. How well this fits together is another question - in any case, the IBC broadcast fair in Amsterdam is known to start on September 12, so a cine presentation would be quite fitting in terms of timing.
As for possible specifications, there are various, partly contradictory statements circulating. On the one hand, it is said that the camera should be based on the R5 II, analogous to the R5 C as a cine version of the R5. On the other hand, the latest rumors claim that a 32MP sensor is installed. However, there seems to be agreement in the assumption that it will be a full-frame camera.
Now that a presentation for Tuesday the 9th has been confirmed by Canon, one does not have to restrain one's curiosity for too long.
