Canon today announced the launch of a new Cinema EOS camera for January 19, 2022 at 13:00 on Canon Europa YouTube channel twitter.com/CanonUSApro/status/1480872154065522689. Pro Video Product Specialist at Canon Europe Ram Sarup will give all viewers a first look at the new camera enabling its new features.
Canon is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Cinema EOS System, which consists of a range of Cinema cameras and lenses that work together to provide an integrated solution for professional filmmakers and cinematographers. The anniversary provides a nice occasion to introduce a new model in the range.
On the net there is already speculation about what kind of camera it could be - the most likely is the arrival of the Canon EOS R5C, about which there are already rumors since November. According to these, it would be a "CineVersion" of the current Canon EOS R5. This would then probably have active cooling to ensure longer video recordings without the danger of overheating, especially for example with the continuous recording of 8K 30p, which - according to the rumors - for the first time will also be available in
also in XF-AVC format.
Also interesting for professional (team) productions should be Timecode In/Out as well as the XLR adapter connections via hot shoe, which until now has only been available on the Canon EOS R3 (here our field test of the Canon EOS R3).
Canon EOS R5C?
Our feature wish list for the Canon EOS R5C would also include Canon Log 3 and Log 2, a full-size HDMI output, Cinema Raw Light and MP4 recording, and a full-sensor readout for 4K 60p (the latter would active cooling could put this option within realistic reach. We&re curious to see which of our wishes Canon will grant us.
Or does the massive tripod in the teaser image perhaps indicate an even bigger caliber than a DSLR?
