In its Art series, Sigma introduces the new full-frame standard focal length 50mm F1.4 DG DN. Unlike the older 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, it was designed specifically for mirrorless system cameras and features several innovations. The goal was to achieve a balance between portability and optical performance. As a result, the new optic turns out to be both more compact and significantly lighter - it weighs 670g, which is more than 200g less than the older 50mm lens.

The optical design includes 14 elements in 11 groups including 3 aspherical lenses and 1 SLD glass element. Imaging errors such as astigmatism and field curvature are said to be minimized, as are sagittal coma and flares. The aperture consists of 11 rounded blades.
The SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is the first lens in its line to feature the new HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) focus motor, which also operates in the recently introduced
60-600mm 10x ultra-telephoto zoom for mirrorless cameras. The autofocus is said to act quietly and quickly and provide good focus tracking. The closest focusing distance is 0.45m.
Several controls are found on the lens barrel. A switch can be used to set the focus mode, optionally unclick the aperture and lock the aperture ring. An AFL switch can also be freely assigned. The L-mount version also offers the option of switching the focus behavior to linear, while the E-mount version is again compatible with AF assist systems.
The filter diameter is 72 mm. The lens is dust and splash resistant, and the front lens is coated with water and oil repellent. It will be offered for L-mount and E-mount and should be available from the end of February for 949 euros.
