DJI Mavic 3 Classic: Significantly cheaper than Mavic 3, but with the same main camera

DJI has - as expected - introduced a new version of its Mavic 3 drone. The Mavic 3 Classic differs from the Mavic 3 mainly by the significantly lower price, which was achieved by omitting the telecamera. Thus, the Mavic 3 now costs 1,499 euros in the cheapest version (without remote control and without charger), which is aimed entirely at owners already a DJI drone. 1,599 euros expensive is the version with the old simple RC-N1 remote control without display including charger - 1,749 euros the version with the RC remote control with integrated 5.5" display (which alone costs about 300 euros) and charger. Compared to the Mavic 3 with the simple DJI RC-N1 remote control for 1,929 Euros, the Mavic 3 is clearly cheaper and is - as we predicted - positioned by DJI between the Mavic 3 and the 999 Euros DJI Air 2S.

The loss of the telephoto camera with the 7x zoom lens (28x via digital hybrid zoom) should be bearable for many drone filmmakers, the main thing is that the Hasselblad main camera, which is identical to that of the Mavic 3, offers very good image quality. For example, Mavic 3 Classic can shoot 12-bit RAW photos at 20 megapixel resolution using its 4/3 CMOS sensor, and can record 5.1K videos at 50 fps and 4K videos at up to 120 fps in .MOV or .MP4 format with a maximum bit rate of 200 Mbps (H.264) or 140 Mbps (H.265). It also has a variable aperture (f/2.8-f/11) for a offers a native dynamic range of 12.8 stops-all much like the Mavic 3. Also supported, as with the Mavic 2 Pro, is video capture via 10-bit D-Log color profile and photo capture via Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS).

Otherwise, the Mavic 3 Classic has all the features of the

Mavic 3 standard version, such as a maximum flight time of 46 minutes, a video transmission range of 8 km via O3+ according to EU CE standard, and live video transmission at 1080p with 60 fps. Interestingly, the Classic&s weight of 895 grams is the same as the Mavic 3&s, despite the telephoto camera being saved.

- Das 100 MP Panorama ermöglicht das direkte automatische Zusammenfügen und Bearbeiten von Bildern durch die Drohne, ohne die DJI Fly App und ohne manuelle Nachbearbeitung.

- Gekürzte Videoclips (Trimmed Download Modus) ermöglichen es, einen ausgewählten Teil eines Clips anstelle der gesamten Datei zu exportieren, um nur das benötigte Filmmaterial zu verwenden und gleichzeitig Speicherplatz zu sparen und Exportzeiten zu verkürzen.

Abstacle Detection and Navigation Systems APAS and ActiveTrack 5.0

The Mavic 3 Classic uses the latest version 5.0 of DJI&s obstacle detection and avoidance system APAS (Advanced Pilot Assistance System), which continuously reads data from six fisheye vision sensors and two wide-angle sensors to detect obstacles in all directions and automatically avoid them, even at high speeds.

Using DJI&s ActiveTrack 5.0 object tracking system, the Mavic 3 Classic can follow an object while avoiding obstacles - even if visual contact is momentarily lost, tracking of an object can then resume. Similarly, more complex maneuvers can be performed during an object tracking to follow a subject as it moves forward, backward, sideways and diagonally, and the drone can also fly alongside or around a moving subject.

Other safety systems include familiar DJI features such as geofencing, the AeroScope identification system, and an integrated AirSense system that warns of nearby planes and helicopters sending ADS-B signals, helping to detect potential hazards early.

C1 Certificate for Mavic 3 Classic

The Mavic 3 Classic is automatically C1 certified like the previous Mavic 3 models in the EU as soon as a C1-compliant firmware, which however brings some

changes, is installed. The C1 certificate brings a number of advantages for drone pilots. For example, users with the C1 certification can fly in the new open A1 category and no longer have to take the complex and costly A2 Remote Pilot Certificate exam (aka "large EU drone license") - however, all drones weighing 250 grams or more still require the basic A1/A3 "Certificate of Competence."

Drone pilots can also use the C1 certificate to fly in locations for which permission could previously only be obtained through lengthy special permits. The application process for obtaining a C1 license plate should be available to all Mavic 3 owners soon. From that point on, users will be able to apply for the license plate easily and free of charge.
