DJI Mavic 4 Pro is here - 6K video, 360° gimbal and better obstacle detection
[13:59 Tue,13.May 2025 by Thomas Richter]
As predicted, DJI today unveiled the new Mavic 4 Pro, its new prosumer flagship model. But what are the improvements of the new version? In addition to the updated RC Pro 2 remote control, a new feature is the ability to record videos with 6K instead of the previous 5.1K and 100-megapixel photos with the Hasselblad main camera. Another new feature is the improved obstacle detection system and the 360° Infinity Gimbal, which allows a full 360° rotation of the cameras as well as shots at a 70° angle upwards and smooth gimbal movements in multiple dimensions for very special shots.
DJI Mavic 4 Pro
The new camera system including Infinity 360° Gimbal
The 3-camera system - introduced for the first time with the Mavic 3 Pro - has undergone some minor changes, it now consists of cameras with focal lengths of 28 mm, 70 mm and 168 mm (Mavic 3 Pro 24, 70 and 166mm) and thus covers - as before - the entire range from landscape shots via wide angle to close-ups via telephoto. All three cameras have Dual Native ISO Fusion for combining high and low ISO values, 10-bit D-Log, D-Log M and HLG color profiles, and RAW stacking of up to five images. Also on board are functions such as "Free Panoramas" and "Subject Focusing".
The Hasselblad main camera with a 4/3 CMOS achieves a resolution of 100 megapixels, the Mavic 3 Pro only had 20 megapixels, but this megapixel gain is not natively due to the sensor, but is achieved by computational imaging through the combination of several images. The camera with a dynamic range of up to approx. 16 f-stops also supports Hasselblad&s Natural Color Solution (HNCS) and has a variable aperture of f/2.0 to f/11. HDR video is recorded with 6K/4K at 60 fps or 4K at 120 fps.
DJI Mavic 4 Pro
The 70mm telephoto camera with a dynamic range of 14 f-stops has a 48-megapixel 1/1.3" sensor and an aperture of f/2.8, the 168mm telephoto camera with a dynamic range of 13 f-stops has a 50-megapixel sensor with a size of 1/1.5" and an f/2.8 aperture. It is supported by a gimbal algorithm specially optimized for telephoto lenses in order to guarantee high image quality and stability for aerial shots from a great distance. The telephoto camera can also take detailed free panoramas. The medium telephoto camera records video with 4K at 60 fps (HDR) or 4K at 120 fps, the 168mm telephoto camera 4K at 100fps.
Recording is also possible without an external memory card - the standard version of the DJI Mavic 4 Pro comes with a 64 GB memory module, the Mavic 4 Pro of the Creator Combo even with integrated 512 GB high-speed memory, which also supports video recordings with high-quality ALL-I 4:2:2 encoding (as a kind of replacement for the dropped Cine version).

Vertical videos via 360°-Infinity-Gimbal
Thanks to the new Infinity 360° gimbal, native vertical portrait shots for social media such as TikTok or YouTube Shorts can now be easily produced for the first time for a Mavic Pro model: the camera is rotated upright for this purpose. With the help of the new RC Pro 2 remote control included in the Creative Combo, this can also be done very intuitively by simply rotating its display vertically - the gimbal then automatically switches to portrait mode.
New: DJI RC Pro 2 Controller
A major innovation of the Mavic 4 Pro is the RC Pro 2 Controller, which is included in the Creator Combo with the Mavic 4 Pro. The update of DJI&s professional remote control RC Pro was long overdue, because the RC Pro controller, which was launched in 2021 and is quite expensive at around 1,000 euros, lacked some functions. For example, it only supported DJI&s outdated O3 video transmission system and not the newer, more powerful version 4, and its 5.5" display is a bit small and could be even brighter than before (1,000 nits) for outdoor use.
DJI RC Pro 2
The new RC 2 Pro has a larger and brighter 7" display that can be folded and rotated for the first time, i.e. it can be folded down for transport, covering the controller, and can also be rotated vertically thanks to the new mount, in order to see vertical (portrait) shots in the correct aspect ratio.
DJI RC Pro 2
Also new is a rotary control that could be used to control camera parameters such as zoom, focus, aperture or gimbal tilt more precisely than before. In addition, a large HDMI port has finally been integrated on the front (the RC Pro only had a mini HDMI output), an upgrade that many drone filmmakers had wished for. The joysticks of the control retract automatically when the screen is folded in, i.e. they no longer have to be removed. And another improvement: the runtime of only 3 hours has been increased to four hours. In addition, DJI&s wireless microphone system Mic is supported in order to be able to record audio in addition to the drone&s video. Integrated 128 GB is available as storage for audio recordings.
DJI Mavic 4 Pro
Longer flight time thanks to larger battery
Thanks to the new aerodynamic design, the efficient drive system and the 95Wh battery (Mavic 3 Pro: 77Wh), the Mavic 4 Pro now achieves an increased flight time of up to 51 minutes, top speeds of up to 90 km/h and a maximum range of 41 kilometers. And since the Mavic 4 Pro now uses the current DKI radio transmission system O4+, the transmission range for 10-bit HDR video has been doubled compared to the previous model to 30km (FCC) or 15 km (CE).
Better obstacle detection system - also thanks to LiDAR/h3> The improved obstacle detection system is designed to ensure a safer flight, with its 6 camera sensors covering all directions, offering even better performance in poor lighting conditions than before. For example, a brightness of just 0.1 lux should be sufficient for the all-round obstacle detection to function, and thanks to the new active distance measurement via laser (LiDARs), it is even possible to fly forwards with even less ambient light. The Mavic 4 Pro should therefore be able to avoid obstacles at speeds of up to 18 m/s even in poor lighting conditions. The visual system also ensures precise positioning during flight, which makes it possible to memorize the flight route in sufficient lighting using the ambient images and internal map data and thus return to the starting point even without GPS.
DJI Mavic 4 Pro
Better tracking
The Mavic 4 Pro features the ActiveTrack 360° tracking system, which is designed to enable stable tracking even in poor lighting conditions. With its help, the Mavic 4 Pro can focus on a subject even if it is partially obscured and also recognizes moving vehicles from a distance of up to 200m including their direction of travel in order to produce high-quality vehicle shots.
As before: Drone category C2
The weight of the new Mavivc 4 Pro has increased slightly compared to the previous model, it is now 1,063 grams (Mavic 3 Pro Cine: 963 g) - however, this does not change the drone class, as the C2 class includes drones from 900g to 4kg.
DJI Mavic 4 Pro
Charge batteries faster
The new 240W power supply included in the Creator Combo fully charges one battery in approx. 50 minutes via the Parallel Charging Hub and can simultaneously charge three batteries via the Mini-SDC connection. The hub included in the Fly More and Creator Combo automatically prioritizes the battery with the lowest charge level; as soon as all three batteries have reached the same charge level, the hub switches to parallel charging and fully charges all three batteries in just 90 minutes.
With the connected batteries, the Parallel Charging Hub can be converted into a 100W power bank to charge smartphones or laptops on site. In addition, if there is no charging current, the remaining power of all batteries with a low charge can be transferred to the battery with the highest remaining charge in order to have a battery with maximum power and thus flight time.

What&s missing? ProRes and the eND
However, there is also a disappointment to report: there is no longer a Cine version of the Mavic Pro and therefore no possibility to record videos in the high-quality Apple ProRes codec. At least the Mavic 4 Pro of the Mavic 4 Pro of the Creator Combo with its 512 GB high-speed memory offers the possibility of recording video with 4:2:2 encoding as well as ALL-I, i.e. "All Intra-frame" i.e. each individual frame is compressed independently.
Also noticeable is the absence of the electronic ND filter (eND), of which there were even pictures circulating. It should be removable and cover a stepless range from ND4 to ND64. According to rumors, it should be included in the Creator Combo and also be available separately. On the other hand, there was also a rumor that the eND would be delayed and would not be presented until after the launch of the Mavic 4 Pro - the latter seems to be confirmed.
