DJI has introduced the next generation of its compact wireless microphone system for professional mobile audio recording. The DJI Mic 3 brings numerous interesting technical improvements compared to the DJI Mic 2, such as Adaptive Gain, two-stage noise reduction, timecode support, and the ability to use up to four transmitters and eight receivers in parallel. ![]() DJI Mic 3
Adaptive Gain and Internal 32-Bit Float RecordingThe biggest innovation is probably the introduction of Adaptive Gain control. This function analyzes the volume of the incoming signal in real time and dynamically adjusts the gain. This avoids both overdriving during sudden volume peaks and level fluctuations without manual readjustment. Two modes are available: an automatic mode for loud environments and a dynamic mode for quieter scenarios. The Mic 3 also supports - like its predecessor - alternatively to 24-bit, the 32-bit float audio recording on the internal memory of the transmitter, which has quadrupled from 8 to now 32 GB. 32-bit float allows lossless recording of an extremely large dynamic range - from a whisper to a loud shout - and thus offers protection against level errors during live recordings. In addition, two versions of the recording are saved: the unprocessed original and an algorithmically optimized variant. ![]() DJI Mic 3 Advanced Audio FunctionsIn addition to classic EQ functions, DJI introduces three vocal tone presets ("Regular", "Powerful" and "Bright") with the Mic 3, which are tailored to different speech characteristics. This is complemented by a two-stage noise reduction and the option to transmit the audio uncompressed in 48 kHz/24 bit to the receiver. Four Transmitters, Eight Receivers and Timecode SynchronizationAnother technical advance concerns the scalability of the system. The DJI Mic 3 allows the simultaneous use of up to four transmitters with eight receivers - a setup that is particularly suitable for group interviews, multi-camera productions or live events. In the so-called Quadraphonic mode, four separate audio tracks can also be output individually - for example in conjunction with certain Sony cameras. Precise timecode support has also been integrated for professional use in multi-camera productions. This ensures exact synchronization of the audio tracks across different devices, with a maximum deviation of one frame within 24 hours. ![]() DJI Mic 3 Integration into the DJI OsmoAudio EcosystemThanks to a direct connection to the DJI OsmoAudio ecosystem, the DJI Mic 3 can also be paired with Osmo 360, Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4 or Osmo Pocket 3 without a receiver and delivers high-quality sound. To establish a direct connection with other devices, the Mic 3 has a lockable 3.5 mm TRS output, a 3.5 mm TRRS monitoring port and a USB-C port. It can also be connected directly to smartphones via Bluetooth without a receiver. The new transmitter of the DJI Mic 3 system has become even lighter and weighs only 16 grams (instead of the previous 28g). As before, it can be flexibly attached to a garment using a clip or magnet. The included windscreen is available in several colors to facilitate visual integration into clothing or scene images. Another practical detail is the all-in-one charging case: two transmitters and one receiver can be charged and transported including accessories without having to remove the windscreen or retaining clip. ![]() DJI Mic 3 BatteryAccording to DJI, the battery life is up to eight hours for the transmitters and ten hours for the receiver. The charging case enables 2.4 full charging cycles, resulting in a total usage time of 28 hours. A quick charge function brings the transmitter to two hours of readiness in just five minutes. There are also several energy-saving functions to extend the usage time. For example, the automatic energy-saving function puts the transmitter and receiver into sleep mode when they are not in use. After prolonged inactivity, the automatic shutdown switches them off completely. Range and Stability in Live OperationFor large event areas or challenging transmission situations, the Mic 3 offers a maximum range of 400 meters with simultaneous resistance to interference. An automatic frequency hopping between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands is designed to ensure stability even in heavily occupied radio spectrum. ![]() DJI Mic 3 Key Features of the DJI Mic 3 at a Glance:- Adaptive Gain with Automatic and Dynamic Mode - Internal Dual-File 32-Bit Float Recording (32 GB) - Up to 4 Transmitters and 8 Receivers can be used simultaneously - Quadraphonic Mode for Multi-Track Output - Timecode Support - Three Vocal Tone Presets - Two-Stage Noise Reduction - Range up to 400 Meters - USB-C, TRS, TRRS and Bluetooth Connection - All-in-One Charging Case with 28 Hours Total Runtime Price and AvailabilityThe DJI Mic 3 can be ordered online from DJI and from authorized dealers.
