DJI Mini 5 Pro brings large 1

[14:58 Wed,17.September 2025   by Thomas Richter]

Thanks to various leaks, we already had a lot of information about DJI&s new Mini 5 Pro compact drone (see www.slashcam.de/news/single/DJI-Mini-5-Pro-kommt-am-17-9--mit-1--Sensor--LiDAR-19538.html), now it has finally been officially presented. DJI has once again given its Mini drone a significant upgrade in several areas. The two most important innovations compared to the previous model are probably the larger 1" sensor and the improved obstacle detection system. In addition, there is an extended flight time of up to 36 minutes, an extended dynamic range and an improved ActiveTrack 360° mode. Good news: Despite all these upgrades, the Mini 5 Pro remains below the 250g weight limit (with a weight of 249.9g!) and is therefore in the simple drone class C0.

1-inch sensor in the mini class

The new 1" sensor with 50 megapixels is a novelty in this weight class and promises significantly improved light sensitivity and detail reproduction, especially in difficult lighting conditions such as sunsets or nocturnal city views - the DJI Mini 4 Pro only had a 1/1.3" sensor. In addition, there is a fast lens with f/1.8 aperture and 48 mm medium telephoto mode with digital zoom optimization, which allows a stronger separation between foreground and background and creates image depth.

Videos 4K/60 HDR, 10-bit and 120 fps

The internal memory for photo and video recording has undergone a major upgrade and is now 42 GB in size (instead of only 2 GB before), i.e. you can also take recordings without a microSD card if necessary. In terms of video, the Mini 5 Pro comes with the following recording modes:
- 4K/60fps with HDR for smooth, high-resolution recordings with an extended dynamic range of up to 14 f-stops
- 10-bit H.265 video for finer color gradations
- Slow motion in 4K/120fps - slow motion for action-packed scenes, for example
- Extended ISO range: maximum ISO value of 12,800 (or 3,200 in D-Log M and HLG)

In addition, according to DJI, a special portrait optimization technology is designed to improve brightness, contrast and skin tones in order to reproduce aerial portrait shots naturally radiant and with more vibrant expressions.

Improved flight time despite the same battery

DJI has managed to ensure that the Mini 5 Pro uses the same batteries as its predecessors, but can still stay in the air longer. The Mini 5 Pro with the Intelligent Flight Battery now achieves a flight time of up to 36 minutes, which is 2 minutes more than the Mini 4 Pro. With the Intelligent Flight Battery, it&s even 52 minutes, but as before, this option will not be available in Europe - presumably because the additional weight would change the drone class.

New gimbal for flexible camera movements

Thanks to a new gimbal, the Mini 5 Pro can now move its camera by up to 225° via roll rotation, allowing for creative, dynamic camera movements - especially in combination with automated flight modes such as Waypoint Flight or QuickShot Rotation. Another useful feature is True Vertical Shooting, which allows content to be recorded natively in portrait format - ideal for social media such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts, as there is no loss of quality due to later cropping.

Obstacle detection and navigation even at night thanks to LiDAR

The Mini 5 Pro can also avoid obstacles better than its predecessor models, as DJI has equipped it with omnidirectional sensors, including a forward-facing LiDAR sensor, which enables precise obstacle detection even in poor lighting conditions. In addition, the Mini 5 Pro can safely return to its starting point even without a GPS signal, for example when flying from balconies or in city centers, by visually orienting itself to prominent points. A dual-band GNSS receiver (L1 + L5) also ensures stable position data.

Flight recording modes: Improvements to ActiveTrack 360°

With the revised ActiveTrack 360°, DJI improves the automatic tracking of moving subjects. The system adapts flexibly to different scenarios, optimizes image composition and tracking paths and, according to DJI, should balance speed, agility and safety at the same time.

The following flight recording modes are available:
- MasterShots: Automatic camera movements with subject focus
- QuickShots: Various recording programs for creative short videos
- Panorama mode: Manual or automated merging of multiple images

Off-State QuickTransfer

The Mini 5 Pro is said to be the first to support remote activation via the DJI Fly app when the drone is within Bluetooth range. Without having to take out the drone or the remote control, files can be transferred to a smartphone at a speed of up to 100 MB/s via Wi-Fi 6. Even when switching to other applications, the DJI Fly app continues the download in the background.

The DJI Mini 5 Pro is now available in stores for 799 euros. The DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo with DJI RC-N3 remote control costs 999 euros and the same with the DJI RC 2 controller 1,129 euros.
