In a few days, DJI&s new Mini 5 Pro will be officially unveiled. Thanks to leaks from an Indian review video and a Spanish webshop, with the help of Jasper Ellens, almost all technical data, new functions, and European prices are now known. As was already clear from rumors, the Mini 5 Pro will indeed have a larger sensor than its predecessors (DJI Mini 4 Pro: 1/1.3" with 48MP): a 1" CMOS with 50 megapixels and a fast lens with f/1.8 aperture and 48mm medium-tele mode.

Largest DJI Mini Pro Sensor Yet
One of the most important improvements of the Mini 5 Pro is the new 1" sensor, which was previously reserved for heavier and more expensive drones like the DJI Air 3S. This brings advantages in low-light performance and also lower image noise. In HDR video mode, up to 14 stops of dynamic range can now be recorded - so even high-contrast scenes such as sunsets can be captured with detailed views of cloud structures. In normal color mode, the Mini 5 Pro can record videos with 10-bit color depth in H.265, for greater flexibility in post-production, with a maximum ISO of 12800. In the D-Log M and HLG color modes, the maximum ISO increases to 3200, which allows for greater brightness and more details in urban night scenes. For slow-motion shots, up to 120 frames per second can be recorded in 4K. Interestingly, despite the new OcuSync O4+, the maximum video transmission distance seems to be the same as the previous model: 20 km (FCC) or 10 km in Europe.

Drone Class C0, Batteries and Flight Time
It is now confirmed that, despite its many hardware upgrades such as the new sensor and LiDAR, the Mini 5 Pro will again belong to the drone class C0 thanks to its low weight of less than 250g. The mystery of the flight time, which has so far been given differently in the leaks, has now also been solved: DJI again offers two different batteries, the Smart Battery, which allows up to 36 minutes of flight time, and the Plus Battery with 52 minutes. This is a significant improvement over the Mini 4 Pro, which could only stay in the air for 34 or 39 minutes - depending on the battery used.

With the Smart Battery, the weight remains below the critical 250g limit and allows for flight with C0 certification. Those who need a longer flight time can use the Plus Battery, but then fall under a more restrictive drone class. Presumably, as with the previous model, the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, the more capacious new battery, now only called "Smart", will not be available in Europe precisely because of this possible change of drone class. It is not clear how the new batteries fit in with the rumor that the batteries should be identical to those of the previous model. Presumably, the Smart Battery corresponds to the Intelligent Flight Battery, but the Plus Battery is new, as indicated by the much longer flight time possible with it (52 instead of 39 minutes).

DJI Mini 5 Pro Price
Jasper Ellens found the prices for the various DJI Mini 5 packages in a European webshop: The DJI Mini 5 Pro in the standard version with RC-N3 remote control costs 819 euros, in the Fly More Bundle with RC-N3 Controller 1,029 euros, and with the DJI RC2 control 1,159 euros.

In his last leak, there was still talk of only 1,129 euros for the DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More (DJI RC2), which would have meant that DJI would have left the price exactly at that of the DJI Mini 4 Fly More Combo RC2. If the newer leak is correct, then DJI would only charge a little more for the new version despite the hardware upgrade (larger sensor and LiDAR) - 30 euros for the Fly More Combo and 20 euros for the basic model.
New Gimbal Brings More Flexibility
Another improvement concerns the mobility of the gimbal - as with the latest new drone updates (such as the Mavic 4), the new Mini 5 Pro also gets a more mobile camera gimbal, which allows more flexible camera movements in a larger angle. It enables true vertical shooting for portrait videos for social media like TikTok and YouTube Shorts and can now be rotated up to 225 degrees.

LiDAR for Better Obstacle Detection at Night
Another upgrade is the obstacle detection system. It is equipped with a forward-facing LiDAR and fisheye lenses on the front and back to detect obstacles in the front, back, left, right, and top. Binocular lenses and a 3D infrared sensor on the underside enable omnidirectional obstacle detection.
The forward-facing LiDAR detects obstacles (as with the Mavic 4) by laser even in poor lighting conditions, thus enabling night flights. In addition, the improved RTH function can safely return to its starting point even without a GPS signal by visually recognizing and memorizing its flight route.

Off-State QuickTransfer
The Mini 5 Pro supports remote activation via the DJI Fly app for the first time when the drone is within Bluetooth range. Without having to take out the drone or the remote control, files can be transferred to a smartphone at a speed of up to 100 MB/s via Wi-Fi 6. Even when switching to other applications, the DJI Fly app continues the download in the background.
