(Photorumors) has discovered that DJI has registered an Osmo 360 camera with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), the American equivalent of Germany&s Bundesnetzagentur. This makes it clear that DJI plans to enter the 360-degree camera market, which has so far been dominated by Insta360. The Osmo 360 was certified by the FCC on September 8, 2024, indicating that the official release of the new camera by DJI is expected in the coming months, as the technical data submitted to the FCC remains confidential for only 180 days. ;)
Since no technical specifications are known, the features of the Osmo 360 can only be speculated upon. From the name, it is clear that it will be a panoramic camera capable of capturing 360° footage. It is expected that DJI will leverage its expertise in camera technology, equipping the Osmo 360 comparably to its direct competitor, the  Insta 360 X4, and pricing it similarly. This means the price is likely to be in the range of the Insta 360 X4, which currently costs around 540 euros. ;) FCC information on the DJI Osmo 360 DJI will surely also incorporate its advanced image stabilization technology, already used in drones and gimbals, into the Osmo 360 to ensure smooth footage. The Osmo 360 is unlikely to fall short of the technical specs of the Insta 360 X4, and it must at least offer surround recordings in 8K at 30fps, 5.7K video at 60fps, and slow-motion in 4K at 100fps. For users who want to film in 360°, there is certainly new competition to look forward to in the panoramic camera market, as Insta 360 currently stands almost alone, with GoPro still not having released a successor to the Go Pro Max, introduced in 2019 and now no longer available.
