And there it is, the new DJI Osmo Action 4 - the action cam available since today is pretty much the same as the recently leaked specifications. The big innovation compared to the previous generation is the new, slightly larger sensor. As always, DJI does not specify the exact resolution of the 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, but 4K can be recorded with a maximum of 3840x2880 pixels, while the Osmo 3 with its 1/1.7" sensor still supported the wider 4096x3072 format. So on a larger area, it seems there are also slightly fewer pixels; the pixel size is said to be 2.4μm.

Despite the new sensor, the camera's dimensions (70.5 × 44.2 × 32.8 mm) and weight (145g) remain unchanged. The speed remains at an f/2.8, and the angle of view is also still 155° (but only up to 4K/60 fps and without stabilization). A 10-bit D-Log M color mode with greater dynamic range is supported when recording in the HEVC codec. High frame rates up to 120p can be used in 4K, 2.7K as well as FullHD (in 16:9 mode). As usual, even 240p is possible in FHD. The max. video bitrate has remained the same at 130 MBit/s.
Without the additional waterproof housing, the Osmo can withstand a water depth of 18m, which is 2 meters more than the Osmo 3. A color temperature sensor (which is not new, as far as we know) is supposed to ensure correct color reproduction even under water.
The actioncam still features two displays, three microphones including noise reduction software, a Wi-Fi live stream function, timecode sync, native vertical recording, an InvisiStick function, a SnapShot button and quick switch button, voice control (English and Chinese only).
For the Osmo Action 4, there is also a new GPS Bluetooth remote control, which is available separately (cost 79 euros). This can be used to start recording from the wrist or handlebars or to turn off the camera. It has GPS, so data like speed, tilt, acceleration and more can be integrated into the videos via the DJI Mimo app.
