DJI has just introduced its new generation of one-handed gimbals - RS 3 and RS 3 Pro - as well as its first standalone wireless video transmission system, DJI Transmission (it was previously offered in conjunction with the Ronin 4D).

On the gimbals, handling is simplified thanks to redesigned automatic axis locks that release and lock the axes, respectively, when turned on and off. Repeated balancing is also no longer necessary thanks to a new position memory and quick-release plates. Furthermore, the Bluetooth record button supports an automatic connection without having to connect a camera control cable.

The 3rd generation RS stabilization algorithm is said to offer 20% improved performance. Also new is the larger 1.8″ OLED full color touch screen. This allows most gimbal configuration to be done directly without connecting to the app. User interface and menus have been redesigned for more direct and easy control. A physical gimbal mode switch allows direct switching between follow with pan, follow with pan and tilt, and FPV modes.

The RS 3 and RS 3 Pro also change the previous naming or distinction between the two models, as the RS 3 succeeds the simpler RSC 2, while the RS 3 Pro follows the more potent RS 2.
The DJI RS 3 gimbal weighs 1.3 kg including battery grip and quick release plate and still supports a weight of just under 3 kg. In addition to the new features mentioned above, it features a new battery grip that offers up to 12 hours of battery life. The RS 3 features a quick release design and supports PD fast charging at 18 watts. The battery can be charged independently or even while in use, allowing you to work without interruption.

DJI RS 3 Pro
The more professional RS 3 Pro model now features longer arms made of continuous carbon fiber, allowing it to accommodate larger models such as the Sony FX6, Canon C70 or RED Komodo. Still, at 1.5 Kg, it weighs only slightly more than before. The payload of 4.5 kg remains the same.

In addition to the RS 3&s automatic axis locks, Bluetooth record button, 1.8″ OLED touchscreen, and gimbal mode switches, it also features LiDAR focusing, as seen on the Ronin 4D. DJI&s new LiDAR rangefinder (RS) can project up to 43,200 measurement points within 14m, and the new focus motor in turn offers three times more torque and fast assembly, according to DJI. It enables autofocus with manual lenses without the need for repeated calibration.

Thanks to the new LiDAR rangefinder, which uses the same chip as in the Ronin 4D, as well as an integrated 30mm camera, ActiveTrack has also been enhanced - ActiveTrack Pro is said to offer a 60-fold increase in processing power over ActiveTrack with correspondingly more sensitive and accurate subject detection and tracking than before.
With two RSA/NATO ports and a battery port, the RS 3 Pro can be connected to a variety of accessories including a new briefcase handle, variable dual handle and tethering control block.
