Now DJI has introduced its first 360° camera. As already known from ![]() DJI Osmo 360
DJI wants to surpass the 360° camera market leader Insta360 with what they claim to be "the sharpest photos on the current 360° camera market", 8K-360° videos at 50 fps (Insta&s current X5 only achieves 30 fps and the sensor is also smaller at 1/1.28" than the Osmo 360&s) and 100 minutes of continuous recording in 8K/30fps (Insta360 X5: 93 minutes). New 1" SensorThe square shape of the 1" sensor has the advantage that, compared to classic rectangular sensors, the entire sensor area is used for 360° recording, so the entire resolution is natively available, 25% more according to DJI. Also, the pixel size of 2.4 μm is said to be twice as large as the industry standard of 1.2 μm, but the Insta360 X5 uses 2.44 μm pixels. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 The dynamic range is large at 13.5 stops and, in combination with the larger pixel size and f/1.9 aperture, should enable pin-sharp and vibrant recordings even in weak light or in high-contrast scenes, although the dynamic range of the X5 is just as large and its aperture of F/2.0 is only slightly smaller. The DJI Osmo 360 as a classic action cameraYou can seamlessly switch between the front and rear lens during recording. In single-lens mode, the 183 g Osmo 360 becomes a 155° ultra-wide-angle POV action camera with 5K/60fps video recording or a 170° field of view and 4K/120fps video recording. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 Conveniently, unlike the X5, the Osmo 360 has a 105 GB integrated memory for video recording, meaning you can use the camera without a MicroSD card. According to DJI, the Osmo 360 is designed for use in extreme conditions and can record for over 1.5 hours at temperatures down to -20 °C. The housing is said to be waterproof to a depth of 10 meters. The exact recording time depends on the recording mode: at 8K/30fps, the replaceable 1,950 mAh battery is sufficient for continuous recording of 100 minutes, and the optional Osmo 360 Battery Extension Rod can record for a further 180 minutes. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 with 2.5 meter selfie stick Unlike the Insta360 X5, however, the two lenses of the Osmo 360 cannot be replaced - DJI therefore supplies a rubber lens protector for protection. The integrated OLED 2" touchscreen (314 × 556) is said to be bright enough to be readable even in sunlight. The built-in microphones can record in stereo or mono and have adjustable noise reduction against wind noise. The Adventure Combo comes with a 1.2 meter long selfie stick, and a 2.5 meter carbon fiber stick will also be offered as an option. Data is transferred to the PC via USB-C as well as Wi-Fi 6.0 and Bluetooth; live preview and direct control via smartphone or tablet should therefore be possible at any time. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 DJI wants to match or even surpass the competition with the numerous special functions of the Osmo 360: - Invisible selfie stick: The Osmo selfie stick is automatically made invisible in 360° videos - For high motion resolution, 360° video can also be recorded with 4K at 100fps. - up to 4x slow motion recording - 360° photos with 120 MP (Insta360 X5: 72MP) - Recording control via gestures and voice - HorizonSteady and RockSteady: HorizonSteady keeps the footage level at all times, no matter how the camera is rotated. In single-lens mode, RockSteady 3.0 effectively reduces camera shake without affecting the dynamics of the movement - With DJI Mimo GyroFrame, users can adjust the 360° composition using motion control - intelligent tracking of people, vehicles, pets and more - Support for cross-platform editing: Users can edit videos with DJI Mimo or DJI Studio. A special Premiere plug-in optimizes the workflow for creating 360° videos. DJI also wants to score points with the integration of the new model into the existing ecosystem of Osmo cameras: thanks to the magnetic quick-release design, it is compatible with accessories from the Osmo Action series and also has a 1/4-inch thread for using conventional equipment. With the help of the OsmoAudio Direct Microphone Connection, the Osmo 360 can be directly connected to two DJI microphone transmitters and record their sound. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 Price and availabilityAs always, DJI offers the camera in various packages: the Osmo 360 Standard Combo for 479.99 euros includes an Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus in addition to the Osmo 360, as well as an Osmo 360 protective case, Osmo lens cleaning cloth, USB-C to USB-C PD cable (USB 3.1) and an Osmo 360 lens protector (rubber).
