The Inspire 2 has been on the market since late 2016, introducing many features that were later implemented in DJI&s prosumer drones over the years, such as 5.2K video recording in Adobe CinemaDNG and Apple ProRes formats on SSD.

However, since the introduction of the Mavic 3 Cine, which can record 5.1K video in Apple ProRes, the Inspire 2&s former advantages in image quality and features have shrunk considerably - as has the price difference, which is now only around ,700 between the Inspire 2 X5S in the Advanced set to the Mavic 3 Cine Premium combo.
Sale of the Inspire 2
Already for some time there was the rumor that still in September this year a new generation of the Inspire should appear - a Tweet of the well-known DJI Leaker OsitaLV gave this now further food, because he announces quasi the end of the Inspire 2: this is from February no longer produced and sold by DJI - it will then only be available at dealers who sell off their stock (similarly it was already with the Mavic 2, whose production and sales were stopped about 6 months before the launch of the Mavic 3).
DJI Inspire 2 production discontinued.
Inspire vs Mavic 3
After so long on the market, the time is naturally ripe for an upgrade. For while the Inspire still has some advantages over the Mavic 3 Cine, such as the ability to use different lenses, swap out the SSD or gimbal camera (X4S, X5S or X7), a dual battery system, separate control of the drone and camera, and a more powerful motor (or, due to its significantly higher weight of about 4kg versus 0.9kg, greater flight stability in windy conditions).

But the new prosumer drone Mavic 3 is clearly superior to the Inspire 2 in some respects due to the advanced development of technology in recent years. For example, it not only has a longer flight time, but also a better obstacle detection and avoidance and object tracking system, as well as greater flight safety thanks to AeroScope identification and AirSense.
Inspire 3 - what does it need to be able to do?
So what might an upgrade of the Inspire to version 3 consist of? At the very least, it would have to have all the features it lacks compared to the Mavic 3 and - if possible - surpass them, for example in terms of sensor size and image resolution - while of course retaining its previous advantages (see above), which are especially important for professional users. Compatibility with the new RC Pro remote control and thus the latest version of the OcuSync 3.0 video transmission system would also be desirable.
However, the Mavic 3 will not have to take a fundamental advantage due to its lower weight: thus, according to the current drone regulation and its classification in category A2, it is subject to significantly fewer restrictions regarding, for example, minimum distances during flight than the Inspire 2 (and in the future also the Inspire 3, provided it does not halve its flying weight), which makes professional work with it significantly less complicated.
So we are looking forward to the first leaks regarding the technical capabilities of the DJI Ínspire 3, which we expect to be launched in September 2022.
