DJI introduces Mic 2 - wireless microphone system with new functions

[15:52 Wed,17.January 2024   by blip]

DJI presents the new Mic 2, which is designed for vlogs and interviews, among other things. The revised 2-channel microphone system comes in a new design and also features a number of innovations such as 32-bit float recording, noise-canceling and Bluetooth.

The DJI Mic 2 (like the first previous generation) is equipped with omnidirectional recording functions which, according to DJI, are optimized to capture voices cleanly. The microphone also has a new intelligent noise-canceling technology, which is designed to effectively reduce ambient noise. This should ensure clear voice reproduction and uninterrupted audio recordings even in busy urban areas or crowded rooms. For windy environments or recording in motion, the DJI Mic 2 is equipped with a noise-reducing windscreen.

An optional backup recording also makes it possible to record a second track with a level of -6 dB in addition to the primary audio track to avoid unexpected level peaks. Even in complex, acoustically challenging environments such as a rock concert, the DJI Mic 2 delivers balanced results with remarkable ease. The DJI Mic 2 also features a dual-channel recording function that allows you to record audio from two sources simultaneously.

The DJI Mic 2 is easy to use. The device switches on automatically when the intelligent charging cradle (now with a new locking mechanism) is opened. It automatically connects the receiver and transmitters when charging so that they do not need to be paired before use. Each transmitter and receiver offers an extended operating time of 6 hours compared to its predecessor, which can be extended to 18 hours with the charging cradle.

As before, the maximum audio transmission range extends up to 250 meters in open, interference-free environments. The transmitters quickly attach magnetically for discreet wear and feature a clip design to make it easy to attach to clothing.

The DJI Mic 2 is operated via its 1.1" OLED touchscreen in combination with a new precision dial. Volume, gain and brightness, among other things, can be adjusted in this way.

The DJI Mic 2 can be seamlessly connected to DJI Osmo Action 4, DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and smartphone devices via Bluetooth. It is also compatible with various other recording devices via USB-C, Lightning adapter and a 3.5 mm analog output.

The Mic 2 is equipped with 8 GB of internal memory per transmitter for up to 14 hours of uncompressed audio recordings at 48 kHz and 24 bit. 32-bit float recording is supported (although not when connected via Bluetooth). This feature not only delivers high quality recordings, but also adapts seamlessly to complex sound environments and captures nuances of sound, from soft whispers to booming decibel levels. This flexibility provides more reliability in irregular sound scenarios and offers more possibilities for fine-tuning in post-production.

The DJI Mic 2 is available in two transmitter colors and costs 349 euros (two transmitters, one receiver and charging cradle) or 219 euros (one transmitter, one receiver, without cradle).
