Once again Blackmagic Design provides fresh updates for its DaVinci Resolve product line. With version 18.1.3, the free version as well as the Studio and Fusion Stand Alone versions again get many bug fixes as well as a few new features.
Besides the support of new Sony Venice 2 formats, the implementation of a relatively fresh AVID DNx codec is particularly striking:
MXF OP1A DNxUncompressed is the latest DNx format from Avid, which complies with the IEEE standard 754-2008 and offers 32-bit float storage for effects and colour processing that can be visually compressed without loss. Chroma subsampling options in the specification include RGB, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4, although Avid&s Media Composer itself does not currently support YUV 4:4:4 formats.

Furthermore, the Glow, Soft Glow and Highlight Tools now have a colour picker under Fusion.
Performance has been improved for Text+ when the opacity is set to 0, as well as the display of audio effects in Fusion for "mixed" resolutions.
The other Resolve improvements in fast forward:
-Proxies of vertical clips now maintain aspect ratio.
-Copying grades into composite nodes now respects keyframe alignment.
-Fixed cache invalidation on changes to Fusion background media.
-Fixed ARRIRAW decoding issues on Mac systems with multiple GPUs.
-Fixed excessive memory usage during interlaced rendering.
-Fixed a possible crash when working with dissolves in Fairlight.
And in Fusion:
-Fixed an issue handling incorrect utf-8 text in Text+.
-Fixed a problem encoding 12-bit DNxHR files.
-Fixed a problem with smeared colour strokes.
-Fixed a formatting issue with missing tool warnings.
-Fixed a problem with anaglyph alpha.
-Fixed a problem loading some DNG files.
-Fixed a problem with trimming compositions with animation curves.
-Fixed a problem with some depth maps in the shadow tool.
-Fixed an issue with an inverted merge mask with current AMD drivers.
As always, updates for all versions are available now for free for various operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux). The version for the iPad in Apple&s Mac Store is still at version 18.1.2.2.
