Since a short time Blackmagic&s grading, editing, compositing and audio mastering program DaVinci Resolve for iPad (free) available - but until now only the "Cut" and the "Color" workspaces (Pages), i.e. the functions for color correction and a part of the editing tools were available. But with an ingenious as well as simple "hack" by Michael Tobin, the other function areas, i.e. "Edit", "Media", "Fairlight", "Deliver" and "Fusion" can now also be accessed and so the audio and compositing functions (as well as detailed settings for export) are also available.

The hack is really very simple: in Resolve for iPad, just type OPT+CMD+K and the "Keyboard Customization" window will open. There you have to search in the keyboard search field for "Show page" and then for "Workspace" / "Show page" and assign any keyboard shortcut to the page (workspace) you want to show. Then, using the selected keyboard shortcut, all previously hidden pages in Resolve can be called up. However, not all functions on the hidden pages are fully implemented yet. For example, the audio mixer and levels are not yet displayed on the "Edit" page.

The following video demonstrates the hack:
In a official comment in the Blackmagic forum, Peter Chamberlain admits that the possibility of displaying the missing function areas is a bug, but he also confirms the previously expressed suspicions that Blackmagic plans to make the almost full functionality of the desktop version accessible on the iPad as well. It&s just amazing that the full feature set - under the hood, so to speak - is already fully implemented in the iPad version.

According to Chamberlain, the Resolve team is still working on optimizing the user interface for touch operation and taking into account some technical limitations (presumably due to the low memory of some iPad versions) in the implementation of some functions for the iPad - then a new version of Resolve for iPad with all functions will be released. The hack still works, but it could be deactivated by an update from Blackmagic at any time.
