In the context of yesterday&s rather small presentation of the new iPads, Apple showed for the first time a special version of DaVinci Resolve running under iPadOS. Neither Blackmagic nor Apple have yet said when this special version will be available. However, we strongly expect it to be available before the end of the year (partly because it is strict Apple policy never to let things see the light of day long before they are available). ![]() Resolve on the iPad
Youtuber Michael Tobin has already published a quick analysis from the available screenshots of how stripped down the functionality is likely to be compared to the full version: It is clear to see that so far there is only one edit and one colour room, the other "rooms" do not seem to be implemented (yet?). Technically, the porting of the programme is no great feat. After all, Resolve has been running on Apple&s new M1 and M2 processors for quite some time - only under MacOS and not iPadOS. The expected performance should therefore already be known and certainly not bad for a device of this size. ![]() Resolve on the iPad However, the new iPad Pros also cost almost as much as the MacBook Airs with similar equipment. And Resolve even runs in the full version on the latter. Ultimately, with the iPad version you trade touch operation for a reduced range of functions. Which is not to say that the interaction and fast exchange between the platforms can make a lot of sense in some workflows. ![]() Resolve on the iPad In any case, Resolve on the iPad shows that the classic application is now technically feasible on ever smaller, mobile devices. We are curious to see how the market will accept this offer and what the concrete pricing for the Resolve app will ultimately look like. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Davinci Resolve für iPad erstmals gezeigt |
