iPad or iOS users already know the app. FiLMiC Remote The third version, FiLMiC Remote V3, is now available for Android and offers (as long as we keep it on the fast track) a comparable feature set. In contrast to the "normal", much better known FiLMiC Pro, FiLMiC Remote focuses on the wireless control of a remote camera.
FiLMiC Remote synchronizes with FiLMiC Pro and offers focus and exposure tools as well as a video preview. The app offers 3 different modes: control mode, monitor mode and a director mode.
The control mode allows full remote control of cameras in difficult to reach camera positions via the FiLMiC Pro interface.
The Monitor Mode transforms the display into up to four measurement devices (waveform monitor, vectorscope and histograms as well as a video preview).
The director mode offers a clean video preview for remote monitoring of the production. For "security", FiLMiC Remote can be set up in "Preview Only" mode for this purpose. The modes are then not easily switchable, so that only the cameraman can continue to control all operations from the unit.
The following video gives a good overview (also of the possible connection options):
FiLMiC Remote for Android is available immediately in the Google Store and currently costs 8.49 Euro. When you consider what a decade ago you would have paid for the measuring devices alone and how priceless a wireless video preview in high quality was back then, it only becomes clear what leaps smartphones make in the production environment of film. And that, in turn, only gives an idea of what will be possible in the next few years.
