Once again Canon divides its camcorder innovations into an XA professional line and the Legria consumer models. There are still many similarities between the series:
Canon XA55, XA50 and XA40
The models XA55 and XA50 have a 1 inch and 15x optical zoom (25.5mm to 382.5mm, F1:2.8-4.5). The XA55 also features a 3G SDI interface. The XA40 has "only" a 2.3-inch sensor, but 20x optical zoom (29.3mm -586mm, F1:1.8-2.8).
The Canon XA40
The two large models feature Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which is capable of Face Detection AF, Priority Face AF, Face Only AF and Touch&Track modes. The Dual Pixel Focus Assistant has also been integrated to support manual focusing. An optical 5-axis image stabilisation system in all new models is designed to significantly reduce camera shake when filming from the hand. All XA models also feature two separate XLR connectors for linear PCM audio recording.
All models (including the new Legrias) feature a professional zoom rocker, an integrated ND filter, a 3.0-inch touch LCD with 460,000 pixels, and
a viewfinder and two SD card slots for simultaneous or continuous recording. The XA55 and XA50 models can even record in different formats to SD cards in two memory slots.
The Canon XA55
For HD recording, Canon promises high-quality HD downsampling for ultra-clean HD signals. The XA55 can even output these HD signals via the 3G SDI output with 4:2:2 as a 10-bit signal.
All models can record XF-AVC and MP4 (UHD 150 Mbps at 25p and Full HD 35 Mbps/17 Mbps at 50p/25p). Both UHD and Full HD offer continuous time-lapse recording at a maximum speed of 1,200x. The XA50/55 series is supposed to shine further with long battery life: With the included battery, more than two hours of continuous operation should be possible.
The XA55 and XA50 models are expected to be available from June 2019 at prices of EUR 2750 (XA55) and EUR 2205 (XA50). The XA40 is expected to be available from specialist retailers as early as April at a price of 1705 EUR.
Legria HF G50 and Legria HF G60
The LEGRIA models G50 and G60 correspond externally to the XA professional models without XLR and SDI connectors. Like the XA40, the low-cost HF G50 only has a 2/3-inch sensor, while the HF G60 is equipped with a 1-inch sensor.

Also the lens data and the other hardware equipment seem to be largely identical.
The LEGRIA HF G50 is expected to be available from April 2019 at a price of 1099 Euro, the LEGRIA HF G60 from June 2019 at a price of 1699 Euro.
