Apparently, cine lenses remain a lucrative market segment for the usual suspects (manufacturers). At the same time, the use of particularly old lens series with their typical optical flaws in modern film projects also remains a conspicuous trend.
And so Cooke is now introducing another series of cineprimes, calculated for full-frame and designed to stand out from the competition with its nostalgic look. The new series - inspired by the Speed Panchro family - is meant to invite you to "share in that nostalgia," as far as the marketing goes to clarify....
The SP3 lens series has been optimized for mirrorless cameras and currently includes five lenses - 25mm, 32mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm. There are also kits with all five available focal lengths in a rugged case for safe transport. The individual models weigh between 500 and 690 grams.

Each lens features a native E-mount connector. In the future, however, the SP3 models will also be convertible to RF-, M- and L-mount. The user should be able to do the conversion himself. Other mounts are not planned for the time being. Especially the absence of the PL mount is conspicuous.
An aperture with 9 blades and an aperture range from T2.4 to T16 are supposed to provide a cinematic bokeh. Cooke also advertises a deliberate, dynamic fall-off of sharpness toward the edges of the image (Dynamic Fall Off).

Special optical coatings are said to help control lens flares and provide uniform color throughout the set. The SP3 lenses are also said to be coordinated with the Panchro/i Classic Prime lenses and therefore combine well with them.
The price for each individual lens of the set is 3,900 euros, for the entire set in the case a somewhat crooked 18,525 euros will be due.
