French acoustics specialist Focal has introduced the Clear Mg Professional, a new circumaural open-back headphone for professional users. The successor to the first Clear Professional headphones has been designed with the aim of establishing itself as the leading professional headphone. To this end, it features a new inverted, M-shaped 40mm dome made of pure magnesium, which is said to provide even better dynamics than the previous model and is also capable of reproducing the most minimal details across the entire frequency spectrum (it has a frequency response from 5Hz to 28kHz).

The new diaphragm, combined with the 1" diameter, 0.25" height frameless copper voice coil, is said to provide an even more precise sound experience.
The headband design features a constant flex and evenly distributes the weight of the headphones. The solid aluminum headband is covered in a black, scratch-resistant textured finish. Instead of the traditional vertical swivel mechanism, these have been moved into the headband in favor of even greater comfort.
For maximum comfort, ear pads made of perforated microfiber have been used for a very open design. The Clear Mg Professional headphones feature new honeycomb grilles as well as a wider external ear cup opening. The internal "M"-shaped grille follows the profile of the speaker driver for even more precise treble response.
The Focal Clear Mg Professional headphones weigh 450 grams and feature an impedance of 55 ohms and a sensitivity of 104 dB SPL / 1mW @ 1 kHz. THD (total harmonic distortion) is 0.25% @ 1 kHz / 100 dB SPL.

The Focal Clear Mg Professional headphones are priced at €1,783.81 and will be available in March 2021. Included is a 2 x OFC 24 AWG copper cable; a coiled cable 5 m; a straight cable 1.2 m with 3.5 mm mini-jack plug; an adapter from 3.5 to 6.35 mm jack; a sturdy carrying case; and 1 pair of replacement ear pads.
