As always, Frame.io is bringing an update for its collaboration software with some new features in the run-up to the upcoming NAB. Private comments are introduced so that it is possible to conduct internal team discussions on a project that remain hidden from customers. A new @mentions feature allows team members to be made aware of comments they should take note of. A new playback mode in the player allows easy creation and playback of assets in the form of a playlist.
PDF support has been enhanced, and PDF documents with many pages, such as storyboards or scripts, can now be displayed within Frame.io. An archive option has also been added that serves to keep the online storage space of an account free for actively processed projects. To archive a project, proxies are obviously created from the video data, which can still be viewed, shared and commented on, while the original material is moved to other servers and is not immediately accessible. Access is provided within a few hours if required. This archive option is still in beta and is currently only available on request; the costs involved will not be communicated.
The customer review pages have been redesigned to make it easier for customers to provide feedback (without logging in). The share links, which have been long and cumbersome until now, will also be significantly shortened.
There are also changes to the Frame.io iPhone app -- a version for Android, on the other hand, seems to be a long time coming.
