Blackmagic has released the free Camera 10 update, which brings some interesting new features to the Blackmagic PYXIS 12K, PYXIS 6K, and URSA Broadcast G2 cameras, such as Pre-Recording, 4-channel audio recording, and new commands for the Camera Control REST API. Furthermore, this update improves Blackmagic Cloud functionality and compatibility with B4 lenses when used with the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, and the PYXIS 12K gets dynamic fan control.

Pre-Recording
The new Pre-Recording function is very useful, especially in spontaneous or unpredictable situations, such as nature, sports, or documentary filming, making recording independent of the user&s reaction time. It allows the camera to start recording video some time *before* the actual record button is pressed. It continuously records to the memory card as a buffer—and as soon as the user starts recording, the camera saves not only from the moment the button is pressed but also the seconds leading up to it. This saves storage space because the camera is not constantly recording at full capacity. The new update now enables pre-recording for a duration ranging from 5 seconds up to 10 minutes.
4-Channel Audio Recording
Camera Update 10 also brings the ability to record audio with 4 channels, doubling the previous number of parallel audio tracks. This allows, for example, connecting additional microphones for ambient or backup recordings. Since each channel is recorded separately, the sound can be mixed better in post-production.

New REST API Commands
The new REST API commands expand the possibilities for remotely controlling the three cameras over a network without physical access to the camera. Typical application areas include live productions, studios, or multi-camera setups.

Blackmagic PYXIS 12K
The PYXIS 12K additionally receives dynamic fan control, which ensures that the fan runs slower (and thus quieter) during recording and automatically ramps up again only after recording has ended—it will temporarily get warmer than before, but overheating damage is still avoided because the fan runs at full speed if necessary.
