Blackmagic has released a new version of its free professional camera app for Android. Version 3.2 brings several features that primarily improve live production and mobile streaming, such as support for custom live streaming configurations, SRT streaming, and H.265 live streaming, as well as optimized calibration for Zebra and False Color tools. The iOS version of the Blackmagic Camera App received these features in version 3.2 (already in early November) at apps.apple.com/de/app/blackmagic-camera/id6449580241. Here are the new features in more detail: ![]() Blackmagic Camera for Android 3.2 Custom Live Streaming DestinationsPreviously, live streaming was limited to predefined platforms; now, free endpoints for streaming, such as private RTMP/SRT servers, can be defined. SRT Streaming to Third-Party PlatformsThe Blackmagic Camera App now also supports the open SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol for streaming to third-party providers. SRT not only supports encrypted streaming but is also more robust than RTMP for fluctuating mobile connections because it compensates for packet loss via ARQ and dynamically controls latency. Feeds via SRT are thus more stable at the same or even reduced bitrate, especially over 4G/5G. H.265 on Supported Live Stream ServicesWith H.265 (HEVC), Blackmagic Camera 3.2 now offers an even more efficient codec for live streaming—provided the destination server supports HEVC. Compared to H.264, the bitrate for H.265 is typically 30–50% lower at the same quality, or the image quality is higher at the same bitrate. ![]() Blackmagic Camera for Android 3.2 The update also addresses faulty calibration of the exposure aids Zebra and False Color and brings performance and stability improvements. The last update to version 3.1 introduced the ability to freely choose the recording aspect ratio and to film in "Open Gate" mode on compatible devices. Additionally, new function keys were introduced to quickly access frequently used functions such as audio source selection, False Color, Zebra, or starting a livestream, as well as displaying the selected remote camera image during remote monitoring via HDMI.
