Since its foundation in February 1963, the Deutsche Kinemathek has archived everything connected with the history and technology of film, cinema and, to some extent, television: film prints and materials indispensable for film historical research such as film programmes, posters, architectural and costume sketches, photos, screenplays and other documents. For many years, however, the Deutsche Kinemathek was a museum without an exhibition. Since September 2000, it has been presenting part of its collections in the permanent exhibition Film, which invites visitors to take a thematic and chronological tour through German film history. The permanent exhibition of the Deutsche Kinemathek closes on 1 November 2025 But its time at Potsdamer Platz has now come to an end and the permanent exhibition will close on 1 November 2024 because the Deutsche Kinemathek has to move. Until then, visitors will be able to experience the rapid development of the medium for the last time - from the first silent films to today&s audience favourites, from the experiments of early analogue television to the digital formats of the present day. In addition to German film history, there are also international highlights, especially with a view to Hollywood. The many ‘special rooms’ - for example those dedicated to Marlene Dietrich or Metropolis, which from today&s perspective really do seem to have fallen out of time - will probably not be rebuilt. Younger audiences are probably less able to relate to the artefacts presented here than older audiences, who ‘experienced’ many of the films as children and teenagers. The ‘Television’ hall of mirrors may no longer be state of the art by today&s multimedia standards, but it allows visitors to relive countless memories from the last few decades in an extraordinary setting. So if you still want to take it all in, you don&t have long left. However, the Deutsche Kinemathek makes the decision all the easier if you are in Berlin or the surrounding area anyway. Because from 24-31 October 2024, admission is even completely free! On these days, the exhibitions in the museum are open continuously from 10 am to 6 pm. After that, the E-Werk will continue to be used temporarily at some point in 2025. However, most of the exhibition rooms will not be ‘transferred’ in their current form. more infos at bei www.deutsche-kinemathek.de deutsche Version dieser Seite: Freier Eintritt vom 24-31.10.2024 vor Umzug der Deutschen Kinemathek Berlin |
