Freefly has been active in the field of high-speed cameras for some time now. The company&s first wave camera was launched in 2020 and the Ember S5K, which was equipped with a global shutter sensor and could film at up to 600 FPS in 5K, arrived in 2022.
Up to 2,277 images per second can be recorded in 2.5K and even 2,900 images per second in 2K. A further reduction of the image height to 864 lines even enables up to 3,563 FPS. The new Freefly Systems Ember S2.5K has almost the same 800-gram box housing as the 5K model and therefore also inherits its rather spartan features: there is only one full-size HDMI output, USB-C and RJ45 Ethernet. If you want a preview, you can do this using an iPhone or iPad. ![]() Freefly Systems Ember S2.5K with iPhone The only recording format available is 10-bit ProRes 422 LT with two alternative gamma curves (Rec.709 or HLG).
