Both significantly smaller and much more affordable, the just-launched Fujifilm GFX100S medium format camera compares favorably to the GFX100 (without the S). For filmmakers, it still brings the same capabilities -- using the full sensor width, it can record in DCI4K (4096 x 2160) at up to 29.97p, internally with 10-bit 4:2:0 F-log or externally via HDMI (such as with the Atomos Ninja V monitor/recorder) in 10-bit 4:2:2 F-log or 12-bit ProRes RAW. ;) Fujifilm GFX100S Like the GFX100, the new introduction features a 102MP BSI medium format sensor (43.8mm x 32.9mm) as well as the X-Processor 4. However, it measures only 150 x 104.2 x 87.2mm, 900g weighs the body including battery and memory card, about 500g less. The differences to the larger GFX100 are mainly in the EVF, which is fixed in the S-model and has a lower resolution (3.69 million pixels), and in the photo mode only 14 bit RAW is supported instead of 16 bit. There is also no optional battery grip for this camera.
;) On the other hand, the GFX100S has a newly developed shutter and the stabilization by means of a movable sensor (IBIS) has also been improved, as it seems. In combination with the optical stabilization of the GF lenses, a correction performance of up to 6 f-stops should now be achieved. The autofocus algorithms have also been revised to focus faster in dark environments. When filming, the ISO range is from ISO200 - 12800 (extended to ISO25600), and the data rate in 4K mode is up to 400Mbps. In FullHD, it is possible to record at a maximum of 59.94p. There doesn&t seem to be a 30-minute limit when filming, the GFX100S films up to 120min. Besides F-Log, the camera also supports Hybrid Gamma Log (HLG) recording. In addition, 19 FUJIFILM Film Simulation modes can be applied, including Eterna / Eterna Bleach Bypass. The magnesium alloy body is weatherproof and supports operation in temperatures as low as -10°C. Two 3.5mm stereo mini-jack connectors are on board for microphone and headphones, and there is also a dual card slot (Speed Class V90 is required for video).
