The compact DSLMs of the Fujifilm X-E line have not been particularly interesting for video so far. The new generation X-E5 has now been significantly modernized and features the back-illuminated APS-C 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and the current X-Processor 5. At the same time, its price also makes a significant jump - the MSRP is a full 650 euros higher than when its predecessor was introduced.

Although Fujifilm doesn't say much about the camera's video capabilities, thanks to the new features, they are improved compared to the X-E4 and now practically match the X100VI with the same sensor introduced last year. This is because it is now also mounted movably here for the first time, which integrates a camera-internal five-axis image stabilization (IBIS); it is said to compensate for camera shake by up to 7.0 EV stops. The maximum video resolution increases to 6.2K/30p (previously downsampled to 4K). 60p is possible in 4K, and slow motion with up to 240p in FullHD.
4:2:2 10-bit recording is supported. According to Newsshooter, F-Log is still on board; we could not find confirmation of this at Fujifilm itself.
There is a newly designed control dial for choosing between 20 different film simulations. In addition, these can be customized, saved as a preset and called up via FS1, FS2 and FS3.
A new AF algorithm is designed to improve tracking performance with moving subjects and increase autofocus precision in low-contrast scenes. Like the X100VI, the autofocus system of the X-E5 offers object-oriented subject recognition based on artificial intelligence. The algorithm developed using deep learning technology not only recognizes and tracks people's faces and eyes, but also reliably keeps animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects and drones in focus.
The monitor can be folded up and forward by up to 180 degrees. A new display mode offers a reduced viewfinder display, in which all important information should appear at the bottom of the screen. Also new is the top plate made entirely of milled aluminum.
Connections include USB Type-C (USB 10Gbps), HDMI Micro (Type D) and a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack for an external microphone (or remote release). One battery charge should be sufficient for approx. 45 min. of video recording. The camera supports Frame.io Camera-2-Cloud functions.
The FUJIFILM X-E5 will be available from August 2025 at a price of 1,549 euros (RRP).
In addition to the camera, a new pancake lens FUJINON XF23mmF2.8 R WR will also be available from December for 449 euros (23mm focal length equivalent to 35mm KB).
