Google has added an HDR update to its YouTube app. This means that from now on you can view HDR-clips on mobile phones such as Google Pixel, LG V30, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note S8, as well as Sony Experia XZ Premium via YouTube App with corresponding HDR gamma curve and extended color space.
Google is one of the major streaming service providers, which is driving the implementation of new HDR standards forward massively. Google supports all three relevant HDR standards (Dolby Vision, PQ and HLG) in its Android TV 7.0 system.
However, since the number of smart televisions with HDR functionality in the living rooms is growing rather slowly, it is only logical to be present with HDR in the much more dynamic market for mobile devices.
