Sony, Sharp, Canon and Victor (JVC =) have the weekend in Japan published the basic specifications for the recording of HD material in consumer devices. Basically, was drawn up, as can be defined in future HD signals from DV tape to record and play. Since HDDV might well be mistaken for botched debate too easily with HDTV, the new specification was summarily baptized HDV. The final specification is probably in September (to be published on the IFA in Berlin). Currently, the document contains information on the recording at 720p (1280 x 720 pixels, progressive) and 1080i (scaled-1440 x 1080 pixels, interlaced). It captures with MPEG2, but the 720p mode will be identical to the procedure, the GR-HD1 from JVC already in use. This specification also on Sony's new BluRay disc speaks as a recording medium. It can therefore expect that even Canon, Sharp and Sony are about to come out with HD-enabled DV camcorders on the market. Whether this will be already the case at IFA, however, is still open.
