Hollyland Lark MAX 2 - New wireless microphone system with 32-bit float and timecode

[11:13 Mon,2.June 2025   by Thomas Richter]

Hollyland is expanding its portfolio of wireless microphone systems for professional and semi-professional users with two new models: the Lark MAX 2 and the Lark A1. While the Lark MAX 2 is primarily aimed at complex production environments and the highest audio quality, the Lark A1 is aimed at content creators who value compact design and ease of use.

Lark MAX 2: 32-Bit Float and Timecode

The Lark MAX 2 offers numerous technical innovations compared to its predecessor. The most important improvement is the ability to record audio internally in 32-bit float format, which enables a high dynamic range without clipping. This allows even very quiet and extremely loud signals to be recorded without loss – an advantage especially in unpredictable recording situations.

Integrated Timecode

Another interesting innovation is the integrated frame-level timecode system, which can be output via both analog (3.5 mm TRS) and digital outputs (USB-C/UAC). This enables precise synchronization of image and sound during recording, significantly reducing post-production effort.

The LARK MAX 2 enables wireless audio monitoring with particularly low latency and uses 2.4 GHz frequency hopping technology to avoid interference. According to the manufacturer, the latency between transmitter and receiver is only 20 milliseconds. Audio can be monitored either via Bluetooth via a smartphone or – with less delay – directly via the camera receiver.

AI-powered Noise Cancellation and Automatic Gain Control

Another highlight is the AI-based noise cancellation, which is designed to effectively reduce background noise such as wind, traffic noise or room reverberation. The intensity of the filtering can be adjusted continuously between 5 and 25 dB, which in many cases saves users from complex post-processing.

In addition, the system has dynamic automatic gain control (AGC) with three presets (High, Medium, Low). This adjusts the output level to the speaker&s volume to avoid clipping or distortion.

Modular Design and Ergonomic Design

The Lark MAX 2 is available in configurations with up to four transmitters and one receiver. The modular design is particularly suitable for multi-person setups such as panel discussions, interviews or reports with multiple speakers. The new transmitters weigh only 14 grams and can be discreetly attached to clothing using a hover clip.

The specified range is up to 340 meters (line of sight), and the operating time is up to 36 hours with the charging case.

Lark A1: Compact Microphone for Creators and Vloggers

In parallel with the Max 2, Hollyland is launching the Lark A1, a simplified wireless system that is primarily designed for mobile use. The recording quality is 48 kHz/24 bit, and the microphone has three adjustable levels of noise cancellation. In addition, users can select EQ presets (Balance, Low, Bright) and reverb settings via the app.

Despite its extremely compact design (only 8 g weight), the Lark A1 offers a range of up to 200 meters and a runtime of up to 9 hours – or 54 hours with the charging case in alternating operation.

Operation is deliberately kept simple: the microphone can be muted or recording started at the touch of a button. The display LED can also be deactivated via the app – helpful for inconspicuous recordings.

Classification: Two Systems for Different Requirements

While the Lark MAX 2 is clearly aimed at professional users in the film and broadcast sector, the Lark A1 offers an easily accessible solution for digital solo producers. The combination of 32-bit float recording, integrated timecode synchronization, AI-based noise filtering and modular expandability makes the Lark MAX 2 an interesting option for complex audio productions with high quality standards.

The Lark A1, on the other hand, impresses with its beginner-friendly operation, compact design and everyday audio quality – ideal for social media, vlogs or mobile interviews.
