Hollywood actors go on strike - also out of fear of AIs
The reason is the failure of negotiations for a new contract with the film and television producers of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which includes the major Hollywood film studios (Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros.) as well as the major American television networks (ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC) and streaming companies (Apple TV+, Netflix and Amazon). ;) In addition to work on film shoots, the strike also affects advertising for films such as Greta Gerwig&s "Barbie. The first victim of the strike was Christopher Nolan&s new film "Oppenheimer" when the entire cast walked out of the film premiere after it was announced. TV producers have been focusing on game shows and reality TV content and similar content ever since the scriptwriters& strike and will now do so more intensively - film productions, however, are now at a complete standstill - if the conflict is not resolved soon, the already struggling cinemas will also be affected. The union&s demands included higher wages to compensate for actors& shrinking incomes due to inflation and the growth of the streaming ecosystem, as well as protection from AI, which is perceived as an existential threat to actors due to its rapid development. But not only were the producers unwilling to make such assurances, but one proposal caused particular outrage. According to this proposal, extras would be paid a daily wage (around ) to be digitally scanned and would relinquish all rights to their digital replica to the production companies for all time for any project without any further consent or financial compensation. If, for example, an actor were to later become famous after playing such an extra role, the original production company could use his digital double - digitally aged or even rejuvenated - for any film projects and thus compete with him - without him having the opportunity to object.
