The IBC Partnership Board announced last night that IBC2021 as a people event has now been cancelled. Travelers will thus face closed doors at the RAI exhibition center in early December. This development had already become apparent a few days ago, and now the cancellation has been officially confirmed.
According to show management, the move comes as a result of growing concerns about the Covid 19 situation in the Netherlands, which has worsened over the past week, and feedback from IBC exhibitors and visitors. Most recently, Blackmagic Design had canceled its participation, and in addition, several industry giants had not even booked their regular booths for this year in advance.
The next IBC is to take place again in September 2022.
IBC20201, which was scheduled to take place December 3-6 at the RAI in Amsterdam, will now focus on bringing the content and technology community together through IBC Digital. Thus, some of the scheduled IBC talks will continue to be available now as streams. A schedule of the talks (which begin as early as Dec. 2) can be found here.
The typical meet-and-greet at the exhibition booths will now have to be dispensed with for a few more months. However, not for a whole year, because according to trade show planning, the date for the IBC 2022 will again fall in September. Currently, the trade show is set for Friday Sept. 9, 2022 to Monday Sept. 12, 2022. Whether in nine months then finally times again a halfway normal fair enterprise will be possible? That should then fall between the fifth and sixth Corona wave ;)
