The small surround camera Insta360 ONE X2 was introduced today. Compared to its predecessor model, it offers several new recording functions and improved usability -- the two camera modules themselves have not changed. 360° videos can be recorded in 5.7K at max. 30fps, 50fps in 4K and 100fps in 3K. However, the stabilization and horizon compensation algorithms of the ONE X2 are said to have been further optimized.
The ONE X2 is now waterproof up to a depth of 10m (IPX8) even without an additional housing. The AquaVision function is supposed to correct the colors so that they look natural even under water.
The battery is now even more powerful 1.630 mAh (instead of 1200mAh), furthermore the small status display has been turned into a (still round) HD touch screen, which offers a preview of the 360 degree shot. With 149g the camera has become a bit heavier.
There are four shooting modes to choose from - besides 360° and Steady-Cam (stabilized, "normal" image section) also InstaPano for panorama photos as well as MultiView. The latter is aimed at solo vloggers and creators and shows two different image sections. By face detection and tracking, the framing is dynamically adjusted so that a person or yourself always remains in the picture.
The ONE X2 has four small microphones to capture the entire environment with 360° audio through Ambisonic. Also on board is a new, intelligent wind reduction algorithm for stereo recordings.
The camera can be controlled via voice control, optionally even via connected AirPods. Furthermore the ONE X2 can be used as a wide angle webcam as well as for 360° live streaming.
The Insta360 app also offers many additional options to edit the 360° images afterwards without any effort. An updated deep track algorithm can, for example, track selected people, animals or other moving objects, even if they should be temporarily obscured. The "invisible selfie stick" is still included as a function to simulate a flying camera, there is also an automatic reframing, a TimeShift hyperlapse function and more.
