In the latest generation of its 360° ActionCam, Insta360 incorporates two new 1/2" 48MP sensors and a 2.29" touchscreen. The X3 - the "ONE" drops from the name - still records surround video in max 5.7K at 30p, but adds a new Active HDR mode. A new algorithm is said to simultaneously stabilize action shots, minimize ghosting, and detect details in overexposed and underexposed areas. Thanks to higher resolution, an 8K time-lapse option is new, as well as 360° photos with 72 megapixels.

The single lens mode, in which the camera can also be used as a conventional 4K action cam, is said to have been optimized. A new 170° MaxView ultra-wide-angle view is now available in 2.7K.
Bullet Time, the matrix-like slow-motion effect for which the camera is panned overhead in a circle, has also been improved in resolution and frame rates to 4K 120 fps and 3K 180 fps.
In a likewise new "selfie mode", selfie shots can now be taken at 60 frames per second without reframing, whereby the shots are aligned in such a way that the person filming remains in the frame while the used selfie stick remains invisible. Previously, this required first shooting in 360° and later reframing, which also retouched out the stick.
A loop recording mode has been added, which turns the X3 into a dashcam that continuously records videos, but only saves the last few minutes at a set interval. Also new are four buttons on the camera body (2 on the side, 2 on the front) and a larger 1800mAh battery.
4 microphones and a new algorithm are said to provide clear and natural sound on the X3. In the improved directional focus mode in reframing, the sound is said to follow the action even when the frame is changed.
The Insta360 mobile app uses AI technology to simplify content creation; for example, Snap Wizard apparently lets you retroactively bring an image area into focus by moving the phone in the desired direction. Deep Track 2.0 has been updated for tracking an image motif, otherwise the AI can also independently highlight highlights (Auto Frame).
The Insta360 X3, which is waterproof to a depth of 10m, costs 539.99 euros and is in stores now.
