Intel Haswell-E prices and specifications: more cores, less clock

Good news for Power Users: Intel has now announced desktop processors for the Socket LGA 2011-v3 prices and specifications of the new professional Haswell-E. The series (E stands for Enthusiast) is very powerful with 6 and (for the first time a non-Xeon also) 8 cores. Also the new Intel X99 chipset is used, the supports of the (also new) DDR4 memory. The clock is less than for the corresponding predecessor models: the Core i7 5960X uses 3.0 GHz (in Turbo mode up to 3.5) compared to the 3.5 GHz (3.9 GHz max) of 4690K - according to Intel, but should the i7-5960X because of its bigger number of cores (8 instead of 6), the instruction set extension AVX2 and the faster DDR4 RAM eg 4K Video 20% in Premiere CC compress faster than the i7-4960X and 4K transcoding in Handbrake up to 34%faster. The X at the end of the type designation marks the Extreme Edition, ie the processor can be overclocked free (appropriate cooling provided). But PIC1 The new CPUs are not suitable for easy upgrading old systems, because the new socket LGA2011-v3 (LGA2011-3) is not compatible with the existing LGA2011 - why is a new motherboard duty - as well as the new DDR4- memory. And will probably be quite expensive in the first time. The new X99 chipset has some improvements compared to the predecessor to: CPU cores as 8.6 now supports up to 20 MB of shared cache, 40 PCIe lanes, 4 channel DDR4 memory 2133, a maximum of 10 SATA 6 Gb / s ports, Thunderbolt and BCLK overclocking. The 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes to support multiple graphics cards, including 1 x 16 and 3x 8 PCI lanes connected or 2 full-bandwidth (x16) and one with 8 lanes. Here are the specifications of the individual CPUs: Intel Core i7 5960X 8 cores / 16 hyperthreads - 40-lane PCIe 3.0: $ 999 (or currently around 950 euros) Intel Core i7 5930K 6 cores / 12 hyperthreads - 40-lane PCIe 3.0: 583 Dollar Intel Core i7 5820K 6 cores / 12 threads Hyper - 28-lane PCIe 3.0: $ 389 ready computer with the new i7 processors and motherboards with the X99 chipset are new, many manufacturers now obtained. If you need extreme computing power, but probably still prefer the forthcoming Haswell-EP Xeons waits with up to 18 cores. Here a first test of the i7-5960X of Golem. u003cimg
