DJI is now officially teasing its first 360° camera, which will be unveiled on July 31st at 2:00 PM. A teaser on the homepage shows the new Osmo 360 from the side and presents the new 1-1/1" sensor. With this, DJI is directly attacking Insta360, the market leader in the field of 360° cameras, for the first time. According to rumors, Insta360 is promptly retaliating with a counterattack on DJI&s core business and is developing two of its own drones (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Bekommt-DJI-bald-neue-Drohnen-Konkurrenz--19416.html).
![]() DJI Osmo 360 Thanks to new leaks, we already have more pictures and information about the Osmo 360: Unlike the rather elongated Insta360 X5 (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Insta360-X5-vorgestellt---8K-360--Kamera-jetzt-mit-19254.htm), the Osmo 360 is almost square and, at 184 grams, 18 grams lighter. It has two square 1" sensors with ultra-wide-angle lenses (f/1.9) and a resolution of 120 megapixels, specially developed by DJI for 360° recordings. One sensor each on the front and back record a continuous 360° panoramic video, which is composed in real time from the two recordings and should offer a resolution of 8K at 30 fps (optionally also 6K 60fps and 4K 100fps). ![]() DJI Osmo 360 Sensor 360° photos are taken with a resolution of 120 megapixels. Interestingly, the sensor of the current Insta360 X5 camera is slightly smaller at 1/1.12", but Insta360 already released a camera with two 1" sensors in 2022 with the Insta360 ONE RS 360 Edition (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Insta360-ONE-RS-1-Zoll-360-Edition---groesserer-Sens-17296.html). ![]() Insta360 ONE RS 360 Edition with 1" sensor Alternatively, video recordings in other, "normal" resolutions and frame rates are also supported, such as 4K (time-lapse) recordings with up to 120 fps (with a viewing angle of 170° - only one of the two camera modules is used) or 5K recordings at 60 fps with a 155° angle. DJI is also said to be integrating HDR recordings and a 10Bit-D-Log M color mode for a higher dynamic range into this camera. Recording is done on the 128 GB internal memory or on a microSDXC card - the Insta360 X5 only offers the latter. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 Recording in 8K should be possible for up to 100 minutes; replaceable 1,950 mAh batteries like those used in the Osmo Actioncam are to be used. The recording time can be extended to 180 minutes with an optional "Battery Extension Bar". This also functions as a handle with easily accessible camera controls via dedicated buttons. The Osmo 360 is equipped with a 1/4-inch thread - in order to use the magnetic quick-release system of the Osmo ecosystem, the battery grip or a corresponding adapter seems to be required. The housing of the Osmo 360 should be waterproof to a depth of 10 meters, so that no extra diving case is necessary - very practical for underwater shots or even just in the rain. Unlike the direct competition, however, the two lenses of the Osmo 360 will not be interchangeable. Future users should therefore be careful and use auxiliary lenses for protection. The integrated 2" OLED touchscreen (314 × 556) should be bright enough to be readable even in sunlight. The built-in microphones can record in stereo or mono and offer adjustable noise reduction against wind noise. A 1.2 meter long selfie stick is included, and a 2.5 meter long carbon fiber stick is also offered as an option. Data transfer to the PC takes place via USB-C as well as Wi-Fi 6.0 and Bluetooth; Live preview and direct control via smartphone or tablet should therefore be possible at any time. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 An important point is of course the price: It should be around 500 dollars and thus in the range of the Insta360 X5, which is currently available in the standard bundle from around 555 euros. It will be exciting to see whether DJI succeeds as well as Insta360 in seamlessly merging the recordings of the two camera modules into a 360° panorama. In order to be a real competitor, however, not only must this work well, but the Osmo 360 must also offer comparable functionality to the mature functions of the current Insta360 X5, such as making the selfie stick invisible via AI, the automatic selection of an image section via AI, control via gestures or voice via AI, or noise reduction in poor lighting conditions. According to rumors, the Osmo 360 should also be able to automatically remove the selfie stick from videos. ![]() DJI Osmo 360 We can therefore look forward to the first reviews and comparisons with the Insta360 X5, which will appear for the market launch of the Osmo 360 - and then look forward to the release of the DJI Mini 5 Pro (www.slashcam.de/news/single/DJI-Mini-5-Pro-kommt-in-5-Wochen---mit-50-Min-Flug-19386.html) just one week later on August 7th. And a DJI Neo 2 has also been spotted at the FCC. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Jetzt ist es offiziell - DJI Osmo 360 Kamera kommt am 31. Juli |
