After the first Hollywood studio has entered into a deal with a video AI provider (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Video-KI-kommt-nach-Hollywood--Runway-gelingt-Deal-18835.html), there is now news that James Cameron, one of Hollywood&s most successful directors and producers (known for, among others, Terminator, Titanic, Aliens, Avatar), is joining the board of Stability AI. James Cameron joins the board of Stability AI While Stable Diffusion as an image AI has now been superseded by the free FLUX.1 image AI (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Neue-Bild-KI-FLUX-1--made-in-Germany----besser-als-18729.html), which was launched in August and developed by some of the original Stability AI team members like Robin Rombach, Andreas Blattmann, and Dominik Lorenz, the company still possesses diverse expertise. Stability AI did release its free image-to-video model, Stable Video Diffusion, in November 2023, but due to the internal issues surrounding Stability AI (techcrunch.com/2023/03/21/stability-ai-funding-and-turmoil/), no further improved versions have been released since, and it fell behind. Cameron justifies his move by citing his long-standing acquaintance and collaboration with Prem Akkaraju and Sean Parker—the former was previously CEO of the VFX specialists Weta Digital (Lord of the Rings, Avatar, King Kong,...) who won 7 Oscars and has been CEO of Stability AI since June; the latter was a board member of Weta and is now with Stability AI. This is his answer in the embedded interview below when asked why he chose to get involved with Stability AI and not one of the other, better-known (and currently superior) video AI companies. Cameron has long been one of Hollywood&s most technically innovative filmmakers, who has been instrumental in pioneering new techniques in his films, such as (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Avatar--die-Technik-hinter-Camerons-3D-Spektakel-8077.html) stereoscopic 3D, motion capturing, HFR, and virtual film production. Thus, it&s only logical that Cameron is the first of the Hollywood greats to support generative AI as a new technology for professional filmmaking. His interest in the new technology stems from his long work with CGI, which has been used to create artificial film worlds and special effects, starting with Aliens and Terminator up to Avatar. Interestingly, his focus doesn&t seem to lie in generative video AI functionality, but in image AI—he is interested in developing an interface between traditional CGI VFX and generative AI, which could complement the work on films. According to Stability AI’s new CEO, the company now aims to focus on large enterprise customers who will use AI images commercially, while also pushing the integration of Stability AI’s various multimodal models (image, video, 3D, and audio) to offer a complete AI workflow for creatives. With his ideas for the practical use of AI in the various stages of professional film production and his contacts in Hollywood, Cameron will certainly open many doors for Stability AI. Prem Akkaraju, CEO of Stability AI: James Cameron lives in the future and is waiting for the rest of us to catch up... Stability AI’s mission is to transform visual media for the next century by providing creatives with a full AI pipeline to bring their ideas to life. With a technological and creative visionary like James at the highest level of our company, we have an unparalleled advantage in achieving this goal. This is not only a monumental statement for Stability AI but for the entire AI industry... The next frontier of visual media will be shaped by a true fusion of artists and technology, and Stability AI is leading the way. Creatives can therefore look forward to seeing how Stability AI develops specialized and comprehensive AI tools for filmmaking—but the company&s pioneering role in open-source generative AI models may be coming to an end. more infos at bei stability.ai deutsche Version dieser Seite: James Cameron wird Mitglied im Vorstand von Stability AI |
