Kinefinity today announced the MAVO Edge 6K, a new full-frame cinema camera. It features a 6K full-frame 3:2 CMOS image sensor with DUAL ISO (800/5120) sensitivity, residing in a RED-like body. A standout feature is the internal motorized e-ND filter (0.6-2.4).
Recording is done on NVMe M.2 2280 SSDs, but they are inserted in a proprietary enclosure. This KineMag Nano enclosure has its own USB-C port, which should make an additional card reader unnecessary in most cases.
Recording is primarily in Apple ProRes422 or 4444, but not ProRes RAW (including 6K Wide up to 75fps or 4K Wide up to 160fps). In addition, there should be a firmware update with uncompressed RAW recording in CDNG before the end of the second quarter.
As with the previously introduced MAVO Edge 8K model, you&ll now also find professional XLR connectors as well as 3G-SDI outputs. A timecode connector and an RS232 lens connector are also available.
With Gigabit Ethernet via RJ45 jack, WIFI 5 and Type-C USB port, MAVO Edge 6K can also output a signal to other devices by live streaming with internal H.264 codec. At the same time, an internal three-axis gyroscope can record the camera&s position data and display a tilt indicator in the preview.
The integrated hybrid battery connector supports standard 14.8V V-mount batteries, "underneath" a BP-U battery can also be inserted as an alternative. Further, the MAVO Edge 6K body offers a standard D-tap connector, a 12V RS connector, and a lens connector (12V) for powering third-party accessories such as wireless video transmitters and wireless follow-focus systems.
Weighing approximately 1.6 kg, the new Edge body is slightly heavier than previous Kinefinity cameras, some of which actually weighed less than a kilo.
The Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K is scheduled to be available in May 2022 for ,999. Ready-to-shoot kits will be available from Kinfefinity from about ,000 to ,000. Pre-orders are available now.
