The media management tool Kyno has been very quiet since Lesspain, the software company responsible for Kyno, was acquired by Signiant in March. The last version 1.8, which was released over a year ago, is in desperate need of an update, for example with updated codec support (Cinema RAW Light, Prores RAW, latest Blackmagic RAW). ![]() Originally, v1.9 was expected in February, which would have been somewhat in line with the previous update cycle. But since March there is no trace of a new version or of the developers. It seems that support requests for Kyno are not answered anymore, at least there are voices of users who do not get any feedback.
This is usually not a good sign, and if you read in the takeover announcement that the interest of the buyer was obviously not Kyno itself, but the technology as well as the skills of the developers should flow into Signiant products, the picture does not change for the better. Signiant is a rather big player in media asset management in the cloud, offering a "Defined Content Exchange" (SDCX) SaaS platform. This all smells strongly of Kyno as an EOL, but we have now received a brief feedback from the Kyno developers on this issue that reads differently. According to them, the acquisition and the associated transition process is still very complex, but Signiant is said to have not changed their commitment to continue offering and maintaining Kyno. Further releases are being worked on, but this has been slowed down by the transition. In the next few weeks and months, we should hear more about Kyno again, unfortunately, they can&t say anything more concrete at the moment. We wouldn&t read this as a complete all-clear, after all, the March entry on the Kyno website also says "Expect more news from us in the coming weeks", but we can still at least hope for a new Kyno version. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Kyno nach Signiant-Übernahme EOL?
