About one year after Samsung presented the first
Samsung is thus revolutionising the display technology in cinemas - for the first time films are not projected but replaced by a self-luminous display. According to Samsung, the Cinema Screen should be able to display HDR and with about 500 nits should be almost 10x brighter than a standard cinema projector and also be able to display a better contrast through the display of real black. Due to the fundamentally different display technology and the absence of projection, a much better image uniformity and images that are free of optical distortions, reflections or interference should also be guaranteed. ![]() Samsung offers three components: Onyx VIEW, Onyx 3D and Onyx SOUND. Onyx View is the standard Cinema LED system for 2D cinema, Onyx 3D is the shutter 3D version, which offers some advantages over previous 3D technology. With the help of the self-luminous display, content is to be displayed in 3D with high brightness and uniform colours and thus subtitles and visual details are to be clearly perceived despite the light-absorbing 3D glasses. Onyx Sound is the surround sound technology developed by Harman International (now part of Samsung). Unlike normal cinemas, where a large part of the central sound comes from sources behind the screen, this is no longer possible with the LED screen. Samsung therefore works with loudspeakers that hang above the display and create the impression of a sound source in the middle of the screen by reflection. The system has so far only been installed as a prototype in Seoul - but recently the first Onyx cinema in the USA and also - in the 3D version - ![]() ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: LEDs statt Leinwand: Samsung Onyx LED Cinema Screen mit DCI-Zertifizierung |
