The newly released AF 14-24mm F2.8 FE ultra-wide-angle zoom lens from LK Samyang comes with some interesting features. Developed for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras with E-mount, the lens is compact and relatively lightweight at 445g. Despite its pronounced wide-angle capabilities, it offers the possibility of attaching 77mm screw-in filters - according to the manufacturer, a unique selling point in its category.

The lens was developed in collaboration with Schneider-Kreuznach and combines German optical know-how with advanced manufacturing technology from Asia. At 14mm, the angle of view is 114.2°, while the 24mm end position corresponds to 84.1°. The lens is designed, for example, for shooting landscapes, architecture, cityscapes, astrophotography, interiors or environmental portraits.
The optical construction with 15 elements in 11 groups includes three aspherical lenses to minimize aberrations such as coma, as well as five HR and 3 ED lenses. The minimum focusing distance is 0.18 m, and a linear stepping motor is used for focusing, optimized for AF-C; whether this works quietly enough for video is not mentioned. The aperture consists of 9 blades.
The AF 14-24mm F2.8 FE has focus and zoom rings as well as an AF/MF switch on the housing. A custom button is preset to focus lock, but this can be adjusted at any time via the camera settings. The lens offers a weather-sealed construction, and an integrated USB-C port can be used for firmware updates.
