LaCie has introduced three new ruggedized mobile SSDs for professional users: the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro, LaCie Rugged SSD and LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD.
LaCie&s Rugged SSD Pro specifically targets "filmmakers and digital imaging technicians (DITs) who need scratch storage. Using the Thunderbolt 3 interface, data from the built-in Seagate FireCuda NVMe SSD can be transferred at up to 2,800 MB/s - fast enough to work with uncompressed 6K or 8K material, for example. The Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port can also be used to connect a computer with a USB 3.1 port using the latest controller - but then the transfer will only work at a slower speed.
LaCie Rugged SSD Pro
The Rugged Pro SSD has a very robust design, is IP67-certified and therefore dust- and water-resistant, can withstand falls from a height of three metres and even works after 30 minutes in water up to one metre deep. LaCie offers a five-year warranty on the Rugged SSD Pro including Rescue Data Recovery Services. The LaCie Rugged SSD Pro with a capacity of 1 TB costs about 470 Euro and with a capacity of 2 TB about 810 Euro.
LaCie Rugged SSD
The LaCie Rugged SSD also uses a Seagate FireCuda NVMe SSD, but has a lower data transfer rate, because instead of the Thunderbolt 3 port of the Pro version a USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface is used, the maximum speed of which is 950 MB/s. The USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface is used for the Thunderbolt 3 port of the Pro version. Like the Rugged SSD Pro, it is IP67 certified and comes with a 5-year warranty and Seagate Secure Self-Encrypting technology including password protection. The LaCie Rugged SSD is available with capacities of 500 GB for around 210 Euro, 1 TB for around 350 Euro and 2 TB for around 580 Euro.
The LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD is designed for special applications on the film set - it can be used to view, manage and copy data without a computer. It also acts as a mobile power bank for USB devices via its USB port.
