At CES 2024, only Thunderbolt 5 prototypes were shown now, the first SSD storage solutions with a Thunderbolt 5 interface are slowly but surely entering the market. LaCie has just expanded its popular Rugged SSD series with the Thunderbolt 5-equipped "Rugged SSD Pro5," which it claims is "the industry&s fastest scratch disk for creative professionals." ![]()
The LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 offers read and write speeds of up to 6,700 and 5,300 MB/s. The Rugged SSD Pro5 is available with capacities of up to 4 TB. LaCie explicitly targets media professionals who want to edit 8K and 6K RAW material in real time with the new Thunderbolt 5 SSD. The Rugged SSD Pro 5, like its Rugged counterparts, is designed to withstand drops from heights of up to three meters and is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. ![]() However, only a limited number of buyers will currently benefit from the Thunderbolt 5 variant to our knowledge, only 2024 Mac and PC computers currently have Thunderbolt 5 support, and not even all of them. For Macs, currently only models with M4 Pro and M4 Max processors support Thunderbolt 5; for PCs, the Razer Blade 18 gaming laptop comes to mind, and MSI presented its Z890 motherboard in October, which should also support Thunderbolt 5. As a reminder: Thunderbolt 5 brings a considerable performance boost. Instead of the previous synchronous, bidirectional 40 Gbit/s, Thunderbolt 5 provides 80 Gbit/s, and asynchronous or boost mode can even reach 120 Gbit/s. Prices and AvailabilityThe new LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 is available from this month at a price of 429.99 (2 TB) and 689.99 (4 TB). ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: LaCie stellt Rugged SSD Pro5 mit Thunderbolt 5 und bis zu 4 TB vor |
