From VenusLens comes a lens that is not unique, but nevertheless special again: the Laowa 8-15mm T2.9 FF Zoom Fisheye Cine lens designed for full-frame format offers a double fisheye effect. At 8mm it creates a circular fisheye effect with a 180° angle of view, e.g. for VR content, but at the other focal length end of 15mm it creates a less immersive, rectangular fisheye effect. The result is a wide, curved perspective with strong distortion for dynamic recordings, music videos or action scenes, for example.
The light intensity achieved is a T2.9 throughout. The optical design comprises 13 elements in 9 groups, the aperture consists of 9 blades. Subjects can be focused from a distance of 16 cm; focusing is manual. The focus angle is 70° (zoom 75°, aperture 42°). The lens rings are fitted with 0.8 MOD gear rims.
With a length of 62.5mm and a diameter of 84.8mm, the cine lens has a compact design (there is also a slightly larger photo version). It weighs approx. 590g and is sold with a PL mount as standard. E-, RF-, Z-, L- and X-mounts are also available as options (no EF). Filters cannot be used due to the curved front lens.
The Laowa 8-15mm T2.9 FF Zoom Fisheye Cine costs 1,399 dollars (and is therefore significantly more expensive than the photo version for 699 dollars).
