The first Laowa OOOM Cine-Zoom from Venus Optics is available -- the 25-100 T2.9 lens was already introduced at Photokina 2018, back then as a "lightweight" lens. On the way to series production, the weight of almost one kilogram has now become something more, namely about 2.5 kg.
Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Cine-Zoom
The optical construction consisting of 20 elements in 16 groups covers slightly more than a S35mm image circle. The optics should be usable with the Alexa Mini (4K UHD), the Red Helium (8K) or Red Gemini (5K) without vignetting. According to the manufacturer, the imaging characteristics should combine a vintage look with the sharpness of a modern lens. On the basis of numerous demo images, you can get your own impression of how this is achieved in practice.
The cine-zoom offers a parfocal behaviour, i.e. the plane of sharpness should be maintained during zooming. The focus breathing should be low, the focus range is 300°. The minimum adjustment limit is 60cm.
With a continuous aperture T2.9 the light intensity remains constant over the entire focal length range. The aperture consists of 9 blades. Both focus, zoom and aperture ring have 0.8/mod gear rims. The mount is changeable between PL, EF and FE.
As an extension two adapters will be released in October, a 1.4x FF Expander to use the lens in full format and a 1.33x anamorphic adapter. The Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Cine is now available individually for ,000, in a bundle with the adapters (which will be supplied later) it costs ,500.
